Parental Corner

I have a question for the dads out there. My boy is in an educare now. They are already teaching him to write. He can almost write his name flawlessly. He gets homework and projects too. He is 3. Is it too soon for all this? I'm scared that he will grow up too quick and miss the whole point of being a kid. It's just the 2 of us and I know nothing about being a parent. I thought the educare would be the best for him but now I'm not so sure anymore.

Dude, I too am a single dad. It's not easy and no one really knows about being a parent. It just happens and you deal with it as best as you can. The fact that you lightie can write his own name is amazing at that age. My son is going on 3 next month and he can't even spell his name, still battling with color correspondence. But hey, I think he is the most clever little shit around and still amazes me with something new every day.

Dude, all the chicks in my office find it so strange talking to a guy about all this shit about kids and bringing them up. From dirty nappies, teething, potty training, etc etc etc.
I must admit, I do use this shit to my advantage. I get some nice attention when the ladies find out I'm a single father. Pity I have no time or energy to use the chances to my benefit lol

He does seem to enjoy it when he's at school. Not so much at home. At home all he wants to do is watch me play games. Since about a year I let him pick the game then he watches me play. He loves GTA 5. not for the actual GTA experience, but the helicopters and bikes. That's all he wants. I stay away from prostitutes and anything Trevor related. These days he just wants to see BF4. Can't hide violence in that. He's already over the Jak and Daxter type games. Anyway, thanks for the advise. I think I should speak to the school. Teach him yes, but keep the projects and stuff down. He still needs to play.

All I can say is that your child's happiness should take high priority on your list. If he is happy at school and likes his homework, then thats great! I hated homework, and it cost me later on.

I think writing your name at 3 is fantastic, so don't let it bug you. If he is proud of his achievement and you are proud of him, then there is nothing to worry about, right?

My daughter has started walking :) At 9 months nogal, which according to most people is early. Her big bro only started at 11-12 months. Though it's still a bit wobbly as she gets super excited and then falls on her bum. Most steps unassisted over the weekend was 12 without touching a wall/chair/leg/dog/big brother.

Soon I will have to get a shot gun.

hahaha.... yeah, they say girls develop quicker. But I like you last statement :D

I am sure we will get bulk discounts :)

My favourite line when opening the door to my girl's first boyfriend will have to be: "Hey boy, I have no problem going back to jail!"

So my boy peed in a potty for the first time tonight. Big milestone for him so we had to make a really big deal about it. He's very excited about it

Awesome Matt, hopefully its a straight stream for Mom to be proud of?

LOL, I think standing and peeing is something that can come later, he's not really even old enough for potty training yet, we're just trying to introduce the concept at bathtime because he usually pees if you're not quick enough between undressing and getting him in the bath anyway.

That's awesome dude. It's such a relief knowing that nappies are a thing of the past. Next step will be getting him to tell you when it's time, but all in due time.

This weekend my boy grabbed my phone and said, "I'm gonna take a picture of you dadda" - I promptly watched as he unlocked it, swiped it to unlock and looked for the camera icon, pressed the button and preceded to take a photo, albeit a bit out of focus and what not. But a photo of me none-the-less (kinda). :p

Amazing how fast they learn.

Ya, and kids today will never know a world without cell phones and touch screens, it's amazing how naturally they take to technology, the tech we've learned over a lifetime, they will take for granted because it's always been there for them.

I suppose it was the kind of the same when I was a kid, but back then it was that only the kids could figure out how to programme the VCR...

Can't wait to post here in a few months!
Baby is coming in October =D

Yeah... it was kinda difficult to get her to agree to R2D2 :p

Glad you haven't (or aren't?) found out the sex!

Hahahaha yeah Started with R2D2, then Chewbacca and then Yoda. So Anakin did not sound so bad after all of that!
MIGHT be able to find out this week if all goes well and babies works with us!
