Ask Blazzok how true that is

Sleeping in? Hah! You will never get proper sleep again. In the past 8 months I think we have slept 7 hours (or more) on about 5 occasions.

Obviously not all babies sleep equally bad, but yeah. We are currently in the teeth cutting phase. 3 - 4 hours sleep is the norm

sounds about my average as well

My kid sleeps pretty well when he is 100% healthy, however sleeping in means that he wakes up at 06:30 instead of 05:30

I must say, I have been very fortunate in this regard. My son has been sleeping right through the night since he was around 3 months. Granted when there were issues he wouldn't, but those are few and far between. Every single night he's in bed around 20h00 and wakes up around 6ish.

Wow, been away on holiday last week. Kid managed to get carsick on the way down, and then came down with some serious diarrhea, which then caused the worst case of nappy rash that he's ever had. Not all fun and games this parenting thing....

Ah don't worry too much, there's lots of fun and games, but there are also some, shall we say, challenging times.... All totally worth it though.

Don't worry man you can do it. Just accept now that its going to be tough. Its going to be really tough. Its the hardest thing I have ever done. The worst for me was I didn't feel very attached to my boy immediately. The true love grew over time but all the hardships were more than worth it. We are at 7 months and its so radical, free time is non existent at the moment but its not terrible. Its really cool.

Also sleep.....whats that? Can you eat it?

In a few months time you will be coming home from work and your baby will be so genuinely happy to see you that you could just cry.:)
Its very, very awesome.

Every1 says its sooooo challenging but worth it! I think I understand that , but I think you only fully understand it once you have been through it!

So, my boy has seemingly outgrown his cot at 15 months and can now effectively escape from it. Moved him to a camp cot in the interim and will slowly transition him to his toddler bed. Although this escape artist nonsense also meant an early morning trip to emergency room on Friday night/Saturday morning.

I think boy or girl is scary either way, one of my friends was also really worried about having a girl, but it worked out fine, then they had a boy a couple of years later, and that freaked him out because he was used to a little girl now.

One thing that I've noticed is that little girls seem to be easier to handle than little boys, most of my friends have girls, and they sit and play near their parents and they seem so sweet and good, but my little boy is always off exploring and climbing on everything, so we're always off chasing him while everyone else can sit and chat. The thing that gives me hope for the future is that I think teenage boys are easier to handle than teenage girls.

But ya, there will be many hard times, and as bradbear117 says, sleep and free time are not something you'll have much of for a very long time, but the good times more than make up for it, and you don't even understand the love you can have for another person until you have experienced being a parent. And it changes you, and your priorities, there's now someone who is more important to you than yourself.

Very true, it always feels a little condescending to tell people that they can't understand until they've been through it, but you really can't. If you listen to parents complain, you would think it's the worst thing in the world, but ask them if they could go back in time and not have their kids, and they would be horrified at the idea. It would be like taking away a part of yourself.

Eish, we still have ours in a camp cot, and he can probably climb out if he tries hard, we have a toddler bed for him, but I don't know how we will be able to get him to stay put in a bed though. Bed time is a mission already and he likes to do hand stands and somersaults in his cot and jumping on beds, so I worry about him falling out.

He seems to be unable to get out of the camp cot for some reason, but the sleigh cot he just pulls himself over the edge, pops a leg over and then plonks over the top.

Probably because the camp cots have soft sides so there's nothing to get a leg up on

Very likely, but I'm still surprised at just how strong he is. Caught him a couple of times this past weekend grabbing onto the top of the kitchen counter and pulling himself up...feet off the ground without an idea of what to do next.

did any of you notice your kids getting continually sick when they started at creche ? my little guy is sick again :(

Ya this winter has been a killer. And we keep getting sick as well. I'm hoping that I'm feeling so lousy because I'm just tired, but I think I'm coming down with something again.

Yep, it's a problem. Our 4 year old is asthmatic and as a result has a suppressed immune system. If any one sneezed next to him he caught it. Our paed says that the magic age is 5yrs, then their immune systems are a lot stronger.

I found that I seemed to be much sicker when I caught the bugs from my kids. I even had foot-and-mouth disease two years ago!!!
