DiceAir why would anyone want 3GB RAM? Have you ever heard of Dual Memory? That thing is quite expensive for something with no graphics card or operating system. The one I posted on previous pages is so much better

LOL DUDE it costs double the price. and It's a dell laptop. processor is very nice and not many laptops come with more than 2gb mostly 1gb ram. hdd is also big. It does come with a operating system

Lol? It's not double the price. It's R5500 and theres no point in 3GB of RAM. You gona have a 1GB chip and a 2GB chip? Cant do dual memory with that.

I thought THIS was pretty impressive:

1 X ASUS Rampage 2 Gene - Republic of Gamers Mobo
1 X PALIT GTX260 GeForce® GTX 260 Sonic 216 SP (896MB)
1 X OCZ PC3-12800 DDR3 6GB
1 X Domino A.L.C. (Advanced Liquid Cooling for CPU's with LCD Temperature Display)
1 X OCZ Fatal1ty 550W Modular Power Supply
1 X Intel Ci7 Processor i7 920

R10 000.00

Save like over R3000 and get an uber setup!

You CAN do it, I've done it, So have many people.

Oh and its called Dual Channel. You also get Triple Channel.

Yeah you get tripple channel, but i doubt that one has it, so you are using 2 different RAM sticks, which would still work but a notebook with 2x 1GB would outperform it with dual channel so the 3GB is actually worse. RAM size is not what matters (as long as it is a decent amount), its the clocking speed and dual channel helps that.

in theory triple channel has more bandwidth, in practice there's no real benifit of triple over dual channel ddr3 according to many benchmarking and testing firms out there.

Note that Gen1 Corei7 used Socket 1366 - the memory controller on the chip is triple channel - the newer Socket 1156 uses a dual channel memory controller and is located on the the new i7 and i5 chips.

3GB >>> 2GB

Dual Channel has got nothing to do with the size of the memory you are using.
2GB + 1GB would work perfectly fine in Dual Channel mode.

If they both work, then you can run them in dual channel mode, this whole
"they must be the same matched pair stuff" is nonsense.

Wikipedia said:
It is not required that identical modules be used, but this is often recommended for best compatibility for dual channel operation....but how fast and stable it is depends on the memory controller.

That's from your link above...
