PC parts which cost more than a PS4, TV, and game collection

So from what I understand you are stating, FC 4 at its lowest settings on a low-end PC will look better than the PS4?

Probably yes, if history is anything to go by

also, from an unrelated title, see the difference in quality between "Ultra" and "Low"

Low

See, its an OMG moment the game still looks passable even at LOW settings.

Most people seem to think that low settings will result in something that looks like

Seriously now, I bet it will look better than the PS4 version even on low-end hardware

Yeah that argument also didn't follow for me. I'm playing CoD:AW on low settings (barring resolution, which is at 1920x1200) and from what I've seen it is not the same as on consoles.

I suspect it has to do with texture memory - my old card (which scrapes in on the minimum spec) has 1GB while the consoles all share 8GB of memory between the CPU and GPU.

That video seems to indicate that Far Cry 3 on medium settings is about the same as on 360 and PS4, not low.

As someone who's been playing CoD:AW on low ("scraping" in with an HD5870), I can agree that a game can still looks passable (possibly with some tweaking, like CoD:AW).

However, there is a big different between "passable" and "comparable to another platform's experience".

Far Cry 3 is old and so is the hardware in a PS3 and XB360 compared to a PS4. You can't go on what happened in the past. Those consoles where 6 years old or older when Far Cry 3 came out.

Exactly this, PC vs PS3 does not equal PC vs PS4. The disparity in visual fidelity will be much lower, in fact the PS4 version will likely look better than what a lower spec PC could handle.

Ok, then prove it. With a next gen title. See the AC Black Flag post. For something more comparable.

They are actually correct.
The new consoles can do high quality visuals, the main difference is that consoles have little to no AA and PC's generally run much higher frame rates. Far Cry 4 on the PS4 will look exactly like the PC version, the only difference is on PC you can crank up AA and resolution and you'll be able to maintain better frame rates.

Not sure if you're trolling because this is common sense.

However, the PS4 and Xbox One each share the highest quality textures, effects and geometry of the maxed-out PC version. They only fall noticeably short in three areas; the low-grade anisotropic filtering on textures, less accurate specular mapping for reflections, and opting for SSAO, rather than the PC's subtler HBAO+ shading around objects. Otherwise, you get the full deal, complete with subsurface scattering.

It's undeniably a PC victory in theory though, provided you have powerhouse hardware to support its max settings - allowing for a taxing super-sampling option to solve its aliasing issues. However, the PS4 remains the best bang-for-buck version out right now. While broadly a match for Xbox One, its full 1080p resolution, higher shadow quality and increased foliage density barely put a dent in its v-synced 30fps performance. The Xbox One release is a solid 30fps too in matching frame-rate tests but the added visual treats on Sony's platform make this an easy one to call between the two.

this article is tongue-in-cheek. yet the guys on the website comments are going ape-shit :-D

Consoles have really come a long way and the current gen is looking better than ever, I'm not however drinking all the graphics cool-aid that the console manufacturers are dishing out. That being said, the graphical differences are becoming less and less noticeable. I'm currently really just nitpicking (or trolling depending on where you stand).
