The tweet from the game dev CLEARLY STATES .. and i mean it was on the main wall and was pretty short saying that both league play and ranked servers will be on DEDICATED servers.

So your whole rage session here is rather silly as it will have the dedicated servers you are worrying about. It just wont be PRIVATELY OWNED SERVERS . So from what i read it looks like a dota 2 server vibe. You connect to the region you want join your game in the lobby and you will be placed in a treyarch server

Mod tools are for competitve play.

I play both cod 4 and mw 3 and i have not seen the majority of you in ANY game in ANY league?


The servers will be fully customizable so it will give you the options to remove perks and such like promod would've but with the server setting treyarch provides.


What you can rage about is weather the DATACENTER that will be hosting these servers will be in RSA

I could be wrong, but they may have done exactly that with the 1st Black Ops...

Gameservers is their data centres. And MWeb is currently the owner of the gameservers server,

S othe odds is still there for it.

I wont right it off completely.

Remember treyarch brought out dedicated servers 1 week after the launch of blops 1 after people moaned.

3 months after release the hacked promod version came out .. 1 month later treyarch released proper mod tools.

They cant boast doing everything for E - sports all those features and then cock up the servers.

the main focus of black ops 2 has been on the xbox 360 and ps3 versions, which has left a lot of pc version related questions unanswered. Luckily treyarch has just released new information on the pc versions online security, matchmaking and dedicated servers:

Black ops 2 pc is going to "feature" both matchmaking and dedicated servers, but not like in modern warfare 3. Last year's mw3's matchmaking was the only way to gain levels, but it was completely p2p (peer 2 peer) based, while the dedicated servers were unranked. The bo2 pc version is taking a step in the right direction, but it's still a bit of a hit and miss: There won't be dedicated servers available, but the matchmaking system will use them - this should in theory prevent majority of the hacks that are used in p2p matches.

Due to this new system every public match and league play will be done via matchmaking lobbies that run on dedicated servers. There will be no way to rent servers and the server files won't be released - this is to protect the game from hacking and other kinds of cheating. Treyarch will be providing a huge number of servers around the globe for free.

Punkbuster won't be used; instead the pc version is using treyarch's own proprietary server-side anti-cheat technology that will be integrated with steam's vac. There will be a new zero tolerance policy on cheating: Bans are permanent.

Last but not least, treyarch also announced that there won't be any mod tools available due to technical reasons and licensing restrictions.

this article was released on fri, 28 sep 2012 23:07:02 gmt. It pulls back their previous statement of having dedicated servers. All i can say, is the cod franchise is dead for pc. This website will be going down in a week if no word is out that they have magically changed their minds.

They brought game servers out for Blops 1 ? Hosted by mweb and rumour doing the rounds that MWeb is buying some very powerful servers for their gaming. So with Regards to that. yes i do think they could send one this way

The good thing is that if bait marketing got you to buy a product then our CPA allows us to take it back .

Would be interesting though as to how that will work as it gets linked to your steam account ?

I think you are missing the very key point that they are not allowing third party server operators which is what they did in BLOPS 1 which allowed Mweb/Gameservers to host servers. This is something else, like you said more along the lines of DOTA2/LoL type set up where servers are run exclusively by the developers. Historically when that is the case South Africa is not one of places that gets servers.

As I said, I would be happy to be proven wrong but I don't recall Activision doing anything in recent years which would warrant any kind of optimism.

MW2 was P2P only, MW3 had P2P and dedicated servers but only P2P was ranked. BLOPS 2 seems like it will have ranked Dedicated servers but only hosted by Activision themselves, so if you wanted to play on them you would have to connect to international servers and deal with a 200ms+ ping.

It's hard to actually follow this ragerant but I guess I'll try to answer that which I have emboldened.

No-one is crying about anything, no-one is saying that there aren't going to be dedicated servers since Treyarch have very clearly stated there are going to be. So to explain this for the third time, Treyarch have said they will be the only ones running servers, this was of course NOT the case for BLOPS 1 or MW1, they have said they will not give out the server code nor will they let third parties run servers. So for people who can add 1 plus 1 together and arrive at 2, this will likely mean SA won't be getting locally hosted servers.

Again as I have said before it's possible there will be local servers but I just don't see that as being likely however, I would gladly be proved wrong.

If you still don't get that and can only communicate with insult laced nonsense (which is no doubt how you are used to communicating in game), then I just have no further use for this conversation.
