The only alternative may be to get the stand alone version - you might be able to copy over the files in steam once the installer has created the folder structure. The first time I tried running the launchpad it took more than five minutes to load up.

Lots of bugs, left a game because all i saw was the sky flickering with no terrain. After that i rejoined i got into the queue and while waiting i was disconnected due to 'inactivity'.

If you are playing on Miller, yes, that server is -constantly- borked. There's already a new thread about queue issues on Miller, so yea, i'll play some more on US East, no issues so far (and everyone is at least english on it).

This is why you're all sitting in queues, bwahaha

Here's a nice introductory guide to get into this game quickly (especially the whole base capture mechanics and the shields and all that):

Voice chat i assume. There is a bunch of voice channels, i.e. you can voice chat to everyone in your area (and hear them) , or squad or outfit. So i suppose one guy put up his music and played it over the voice channel ;)

Awesome,never knew that.

Can enemy players also hear you if they are close enough?

Excited to try this out, it's almost finished downloading. Is the plan that all SA players will be one race?

Not sure, i do hear enemy players that spot though. When you press "Q" your character usually calls out something like "Enemy Infiltrator spotted in the area!" , that i hear quite clearly and usually gives away enemy positions :)

Well seems you can only roll one faction per server, so if everyone wants to play together and form an outfit [guild] , they have to be same server AND same faction.

So far the only growing consensus seems to be Server: Miller , Faction: Vanu . (although i'm playing the most on my char on USA East which is Terran)

Seriously, if your system can handle this game on high, with everything turned on, it's gloriously pretty. And the scope of it is INSANE.

How do you see what frame rate you have?

Press Alt+F while in game. It will show the FPS counter in the bottom left hand corner and will also indicate whether your FPS is either CPU or GPU limited. Been playing this game since the beta for more than 2 months and also had a blast. Can't believe you guys want to join the Terran and Vanu scum. New Conglomerate all the way baby! :D

It's just a pity that everyone that I have spoken to seem to have created characters on different servers, there isn't one server where the majority of SA players reside :( I have two characters, one on US East Mattherson (V1p3rM4n) and on EU Miller (StoneCold). Both of them playing as the NC. Suppose I can make more as Vanu and TR, but love the rock theme of the NC, hence my reason for choosing them :p

Yea with the server situation all over the place it's tricky. I think in a few weeks they will most likely reduce the servers again, and hopefully allow players to transfer their characters. SOE better have a plan with this because the game is going to fall flat if the population on servers starts to drop (and it will drop) .

Either way , my faction preference is TR -> NC -> Vanu . So NC is my 2nd choice, only reason i even roll Vanu is because alot saffers seems to roll them, but i'm not fan of their style.

Sniping in PS2 is way too easy plus you get 1 cert point per kill so it's great for farming.

Thing is you get more certs for being in the base on the spot and capturing. Alot of snipers sit outside the base on the hills and think they get alot of certs, but if you are inside a platoon rolling into a base you can easily get more. Of course if your team is useless then i guess it is an option to do some lone wolfing.

My Light Assault runs around with an adrenaline pump (run speed boost), so while a sniper can probably one-shot me, trust me, nothing is more amusing running full speed towards a sniper (who have't quite spotted you yet) and mowing him down while he tries to cloaks ;). Snipers are easy targets if you know where they are, but you need to be the Light Assault to catch them on the back foot, the other classes can't jetpack over things (most players don't expect you to come over the building, but come around).

But yea, i think each class have it's pros and cons. Engineer can make alot of points simply repairing the terminals and turrets in a base.

Either way, finally got my sunderer equiped with a mobile spawn station, it make a huge huge difference. Oh and you get points for everyone that spawns in your sunderer etc etc,. So there's alot of ways to get the certs.
