Post your tattoos

Did you guys design them yourselves or how did you come about the designs?
Reason I ask is I am wanting to get one, but I need some help in the design of it.

Well my sleeve is based on Greek Mythology. You also need to remember that tattooing on an arm is not like drawing on paper. Your skin is a completely different canvas and everything needs to be taken into account. On my sleeve, all the faces are placed in different areas which are considered panels. We couldn't just draw a design on paper and wrap it around. You can come up with rough work but then the artist needs to actually sit with you and map it out on you.

I've got Helios at the top. He's the God of the sun who rides a chariot across the night sky and his hair is golden which illuminates the sky. I couldn't fit a chariot with horses on my arm so my artist and I found some pictures off google that closely resembled what I wanted and we patched it together and added our own small touches.

Next on my inner bicep I have Zeus. Simple picture of Zeus but his eyes will look stormy (like Raiden from Mortal Kombat) and around Zeus will stormy clouds which will flow around the horses as Helios rides in the sky.

Zeus' beard will then flow into waves and turns into the hair of Poseidon who is sitting on my inner forearm. Below Poseidon, on my wrist, will be waves crashing towards my outer forearm.

That brings us to Hades. There will be magma and molten rock around him and the gap between the back of Poseidon and the side of Hades will be steam from the waves and magma colliding. This steam will flow up and turn into the clouds on the top half of my arm as well.

All of this needed to be considered and planned out with my design. Half of these ideas were from my artist as well as he knows how to work with your arm or body and make the most of the area.

Not a fan of etching skulls and demons and shit or what my parents would call "goggas". Just good ol' love yo.

Looking to get a Maori shoulder tattoo and phoenix tat on the other arm.

I must say I'm a masochist and the more painful the better :p

Got this many many years ago, never got around to going full sleeve though. Might do it someday.
This was a symbol of rebirth after and during my illness and many surgeries. Proud to say it is well looked after and still looks 99% like the day I had it done.

Damn guys, with out an exception, all those tattoos look awesome!! I love the detail in it, amazes me, just the sheer talent the artist must have had to do those.

Damn. I've been playing around with the idea of a smallish Quake 1 logo for ages now. Nothing big, just something medium.

The original Quake 1 logo. I'm just cant stop playing it, to this day. (raptors counter would have reset a couple of times...) I've had the fondest gaming memories with it. Learned a crap load about PC's by just learning to get the most out of my system.

What do mean maintain one? I realize it might sound stupid, but what do you have do?
How much does weight gain or loss impact it? (I've got a couple pounds I'm working on the get rid of.)

From experience of having a few on my upper arms, chest and back. It's all about where you put it. People gain weight in different places according to their metabolism but I would try to have it in a place that is easy to maintain and does not gain fat (like the upper body). Maintenance is easy simply limit it's exposure to the sun and keep the skin health. With time they will eventually fade, if it concerns you a lot then simply have it touched up.

Lastly: A cheap tattoo is never good and a good tattoo is never cheap.

When you first get your tattoo, you cannot wash it normally for a good few days. I would keep it out of water when I showered, and then afterwards, with my hand, just run splash some warm water on it and dry it with roller towel.

The tattoo will also get dry and flaky and begin to peel. The worst thing you can do is scratch it or peel, so just apply some aqueous cream to keep it moisturised. I also slept with a long sleeve top to protect my tattoo from any crap I might have on my bed.

With regards to weight gain/loss affecting the tattoo, I would advise chatting to your artist about this and about the placement of the tattoo. They will know what's best for the tattoo and if the gain/loss with negatively impact it.

This.

The healing must be the worst part ever. Ill take the pain without any worries, but the itching. Oh my god the itching.

This.

Remember when I got my tattoo. Was working at an aircon company. Used to carry a bottle of skin lotion for my tattoo.

I had the parlour sell me "tattoo goo", not sure if it was legit or not it just seemed like rebranded zambuk or something. It did the job nicely though but cost R50 for just that small thing.

So I had another 3 hour session today. We pushed out most of the shading on Hades and I'm loving the outcome.

Was expecting much worse, but was a nice feeling to feel on and through my skin.
