Question about Radeon ati 5770

I will say - that 5770 crossfires like a mofo...

Ok I am really really impressed with that xfire performance. You should even be able to run it with your 650w as well considering the power requirements of that card are so low. I would HIGHLY recommend saving another r1500 in 5 or 6 months and going that route.

Thanks. I think I will have to add a R1000 to that R1500 for a new motherboard, I don't think the low end ones I'm looking for at the moment support crossfire
 
At r1600 the 5770 is a good buy. The thing that bugs me about it is that between 4870 and 5870 there is around a 100% increase - but between the 4770 and the 5770 there's maybe a 30% increase tops.
 
On the quad core vs. dual core subject.

Keep in mind, that loads of games now days get ported back and forward between PC and the consoles. The current gen consoles have triple core CPUs and often games are written to utilize those three cores as best they can.

If you have a dual core and try play one of those triple core ports, your performance will be abysmal, but putting in a quad core, even with a much lower clock speed than the dual core, will bump the game's performance right back up again.
 
My concern is the 128 memory interface. Apparently this can cause a bottleneck, well does it?

I think the HD4890 is a better bet. Although not an option if you are set on the DX11 thing.

The 5770 causes a bottleneck because of its 128 memory bus. But I am not sure if you will notice it because of GDDR5 and the higher clock speed
 
Not much unfortunately, I have a similar problem with my 4670. Just make sure you have a decent enough processor
 
Lol sorry didn't want to come off as a know it all. The bottleneck is in the maximum speed attainable by the graphics card - as in the limited bus width is preventing the high clock speeds from getting the throughput they need. The GDDR5 ram compensates to an extent with its own fantastic throughput, but only to an extent. The 4770 had a similar bus width, but also with slower overall components, which made it a shade slower than the 4850 at a great price point. The 5770 is trying to do the same trick with blazing fast 5xxx components and it doesn't realllyyyyyyy work im(very H)o.

And there isn't much you can do about it - no tricks, no unlocking - the fact remains a 5 year old 7900gt has a better bus than the 5770.
 
Bah. Well the Phenom 965 is as good as I can go, and pretty sure it will do a good job combined with the card.
 
Oh there's nothing wrong with the cpu - the bottleneck is purely in the card itself. Your cpu can take a lot more than that before it bottlenecks any gfx card you throw at it.

Yeah that is true. Just cant get through. Mine has GDDR3 and it sickles. I would recommend you go for something like the 4890, if you havent already gone for it
