RAGE review roundup

Well I'm still grasping at some glimmer of hope that it miraculously works fine on my PC or that a patch is released soon. Otherwise I'll be joining you guys in the anti-pre-order department :/

I don't get why there's so much negativity when no one's actually played it yet. From glancing around the Interwebs it seems a lot of people seem to be playing and enjoying the game just fine.

Guess it's all rig-dependent.

Heh, this whole time I had this feeling about the game. It's the only reason I didn't preorder it. I'm going to listen to my gamer instinct a lot more from now on. :)
lol @ dtiod

RAGE is fast food, the kind of fast food that looks much more satisfying on the menu than it does once served. It's tasty, for sure, but you'll be starving almost as soon as you've finished.

Dtiod says fail of you expect something modern, but maybe win if you want "just a shooter". It seems DNF wasn't the only IP come through a worm hole into the future where things are bit different ;)

Nonetheless I'll still give it a spin, but definitely not at buy on release level...

Buy on torrent level?
:D
Maybe for good 5-10 mins, but for that time not going to commit to a 15-22 gig download.

I've got so many outstanding games just on steam alone to play it's not even funny, maybe by the time I really can get to it they've sorted out their shit.

I mean next on my play list (after gears 3 is finished) is assassins creed II, gabriel knight 1, machinarium, republic commando, witcher 2. Then still on my AAA shortlist is batman 1 goty, bioshock 2, fallout vegas, deux ex, gta 4, metro 2033, TW napoleon, portal2.

This is excludes all my other titles still needs to be played. Then I have physical retail ones like bayonetta, the darkness, <long list here>.

So lol not worth it at this time to even pirate a game, be just waste of bandwidth, besides who wants to download broken code ?

Found this quote over at PCGamer, I thought i was appropriate :)

"Rage it's made by id, who make corridor shooters, if you are looking anywhere but straight ahead you're playing it wrong."

The above comment seems to show that you don't really understand game development for PC and the fact that there is no way a developer can can foresee every combination of cpu, gpu, ram and so on that PC's can be comprised of.

I totally disagree with your statement. It is a developers responsibility to deliver a working product. This tired excuse of 'so many combinations' is frankly irritating. Either you can deliver a product to your audience or you can't.

As a consumer I pay 100% for the product from day 1 to work 100%, not 90% or whatever.

reminds me of a more serious Borderlands and also can't shake the Fallout 3 feelings. The gunplay looks really fun though.

You know what? I agree. It is a lousy excuse. I personally dabble in C++ and OpenGL programming in my free time and I have yet to find and issue were different hardware setups upset my code to where it causes it issues (I have three different rigs for testing, which have different GFX cards and processors). If you provide the correct libraries along with the executable and code for a windows based system, then there are very few cases where the code doesn't function as it should when it is well written. This is merely a matter of a badly ported engine. If they can shake that off they will have a PC gaming gem at hand.

You are quite correct, it's the developer's responsibility to maintain code that is optimized and as bug free as possible. However QA's job isn't just being on the list of people who contributed, they must test properly and make sure what is going out is quality and not quantity. Today's motto is release now and fix tomorrow, because everyone is slapped with good bandwidth and good wallet.

Wonder how Doom IV will do...

Ok. Installed game. Steam update. Latest rage amd driver. Custom cfg file as per steam. Game runs awesome. No testure pop. No stutter. No issues. At all. Almost instant load between levels.

1650x1050. 16x10.

Msi 6870 hawk. I5 2500k. No oc on anything. 8gig 1600 ram.

I had pre-ordered RAGE for XBOX360 and picked it up at BTGames yesterday. My brother and I wanted to play some co-op first so we popped Disc 3 in. We've played that and some single player and the game is great :) There is some pop-in of textures but that should be helped with an install of the game (which i have not done yet) and it's hardly game-ruining anyway. I also understand it in a way as for a game development company you have to also be looking to the future and the next-generation of consoles and I think that's what's caused some less than optimal results for the current-gen consoles. At the same time I also understand that, that can't be an excuse. I am also disappointed by poor decisions, like, not being able to pick up weapons from dead enemies and there being no deathmatch in multiplayer. But overall it is a great game, worthy of the id name.

Meh, played about four hours of rage on the PC. Until ATI release crossfire drivers and id release a patch, I'm going to hold off playing the game. The graphical glitches and bugs just completely ruin the experience :(
