I've only ever read one book that wasn't prescribed for school. :(

But I'm wanting to get a Good Sci-Fi novel, any sugestions?

Maybe Try - iain banks - the play of games.... awesome... his Sci is pretty cool... and had a little influence on the Halo series.

Robert jordans-wheel of time book 3 Dragon reborn.

I think it is the best fantasy series out there by far.

Disturbing amount of goblins, fairies, mermaids, elves and fantasy crap in this thread. How can you people read that stuff. Silly kids go do something more constructive like taking drugs :D

Assassin's Creed: Renaissance is a novel based on the Assassin's Creed series written by Oliver Bowden and published by Penguin Books. It is a novelized version of the popular Ubisoft game Assassin's Creed II, except it is set only in the 15th century; and does not contain the present day events that happen during the game. The novel was released in the UK on the 26th of November, six days after the UK release of Assassin's Creed II. Betrayed by the ruling families of Italy, a young man embarks upon an epic quest for vengeance. To eradicate corruption and restore his family's honor, he will learn the art of the assassin. Along the way, Ezio will call upon the wisdom of such great minds as Leonardo da Vinci and Niccolò Machiavelli - knowing that survival is bound to the skills by which he must live.

To his allies, he will become a force for change - fighting for freedom and justice. To his enemies, he will become a threat dedicated to the destruction of the tyrants abusing the people of Italy. So begins an epic story of power, revenge and conspiracy. I found the novel while browsing through Exclusive Books during my holiday, and I must say it is a really good read and recommended for anyone who likes the Assassin's Creed franchise. The novel stays pretty close to the story of the game with only minor differences here and there, but nothing that is big enough to distract from the overall story and at R180 a pretty good bargain. Not to mention that the book art is absolutely gorgeous.

Got John Dies at the End by David Wong as a birthday gift on friday. Has anybody here read it? Apparently it's like a horror comedy, but pure comedy and pure horror, i.e it's not a horror book trying to be funny or a comedy novel trying to be scary. Only at Chapter 3 now, so far it's pretty weird shit, a lot of crazy stuff going on.

The last book I finished was Requiem for a Dream by Hubert Selby Jr. Brilliant book, so much better than the movie. I cannot describe how depressed this book made me feel at times, the shit these characters go through is insane. Selby really is one of the best authors that ever lived.

Sounds interesting - want to check it out.

Just read: Stephen King - Different Seasons - awesome - better than the movies on which they're based

Dude, do yourself a huge favour and get a hold of this book, it is freaking awesome. I haven't enjoyed reading a book so much in a very long time, when I start reading this I just do not want to put it down. The shit that happens in this book is just insane, e.g. in the prologue there is a "monster" (shaped like a man) that is made of several chunks of meat (with a turkey for a head) that chases the protaganists around - and it talks. It just keeps getting weirder from there ...

So far the book is pretty funny though, David Wong has a really cool writing style and there's some awesome one-liners in there. Haven't really gotten to the scary parts yet, but there are a couple of things that have freaked me out so far.

Cool man, you won't regret it. :D Yeah, the book is written in first person as if the writer himself is retelling it, i.e. the main character in the book is David Wong himself. His real name is Jason Pargin. He is also the editor in chief of cracked.com
