Rate the last book you read.

John Dies at the End by David Wong - 5 fucking stars! One of the best and funniest books I have ever read. This is also one of the craziest/weirdest books I have ever read and I highly recommend this to anyone who likes laughing and being freaked out at the same time. There's some pretty creepy shit in there along with a lot of hilarious one-liners and a bit of drama as well. Really awesome read. :D
 
Altered Carbon by Richard Morgan - 10/10. A really good story that is written extremely well, I cannot wait for Broken Angels to arrive at Exclusive Books so I continue the story of Takeshi Kovacs. :D If this book is anything to go buy then Crysis 2 is gonna have one hell of a story to tell.

A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgress.
Seriously this book is soo much better than the crappy movie which in most cases is always the case.
Enjoyed it from start to finish, loved the dialect and russian slang (i.e nadsat) and unique plot. This truly is a classic.

Some of the good old psychological horror short stories of the great H.P Lovecraft. This man is a genius! Loved his themes of fantasy, science fiction and the inabilty the human mind the comprehend the horror of celestial beings that transcend the peripheries of time itself.
Short stories include - Call of The cthulhu, Behind the wall of sleep, Necronomicon, Dagon, Polaris, The Rats in the walls etc.
I love this dude..even though he was a Racist Nazi lol.
9/10

Wanna try Catcher in the rye... Have you guys read it? What did you think about it?
 
The General book of Ignorance hehe... WICKED facts i must say definitely a 10/10 for me considering its a non-fiction book and its a must read for everyone :)
 
Busy with David Icke - Alice in Wonderland and the World Trade Center Disaster. Ok so far. I love conspiracy stuff.

Then also, Bret Harts' "My real life in the cartoon world of wrestling" is an awesome all time fave of mine. Goes way behind the scenes of the 90's WWF biz and goings on...a lot that viewers did not know at the time. Easily give it a 10! Story's awesome and if you were a fan of the "sport" (yes, i know it's fake) at the time, well worth it.
 
Just finished The Magician - Raymond E Feist (again :P) Still a 10/10 book, such a brilliant story and it never really gets dull.

Richard Morgan is writing for Crysis 2?! Awesome news! I've got all of his books, and apart from The Steel Remains I've loved all of them.

As for rating the last book I read: the Old Man's War trilogy by John Scalzi is in my top ten of sci-fi writers next to Iain M. Banks, Neal Stephenson, Peter F. Hamilton, Robert A. Heinlein, and Frank Herbert. 9/10

LOL, your username suddenly makes a lot of sense :p Why didn't you like Steel Remains? I haven't read it yet, but I've heard that a lot of people who love his other books don't like it. :confused:
 
I don't read much, but I have taken a liking to listening to audiobooks while driving, since most of my trips are 4-9hrs long.

I've just finished the following Dean Koontz titles and thought they were pretty cool!

Relentless 8/10

Book critic is critical!

A barman goes off duty and finds a note stuck to his car "Get the police involved in this I will kill an elderly woman active in social work. If you don't get the police involved in this I will kill a beautiful young school teacher." What do you do?

Then the Odd Thomas series 9/10 was my favourite:

You really grow attached to the main character who lives a quiet life as a short order fry cook with the unique ability to see dead people.

Hehehe. I always used Jerichau, but this one is more unique.

Well it's not sci-fi, it's fantasy, and slightly stereotypical fantasy at that, so people expecting Takeshi awesomeness were disappointed. There was also a gay sex scene I had to skip before I chunked. I'm not against poofs, but I don't want to read about it :/ If you happen to be gay or don't get the heebie-da-jeebadies reading about it then you might like it.

I don't really go into any books with any expectations and Altered Carbon was actually the first real Sci-Fi book I read. Usually stick to some fantasy (particularly Robert Jordan) some thrillers (Michael Robotham, Ted Dekker) and any obscure/unorthodox books I come across (Hubert Selby Jr., Mark Z. Danielewski, David Wong). Im also not gay or really bothered if there is a gay sex scene in a book, as long as I don't have to see it in a movie I'm fine :p I don't easily get bothered by stuff like that in books (if it is within context), it's sometimes interesting to see some of the "stranger" things people come up with.

I take it you've read the Andrzej Sapkowski translations? Very different vibe to The Witcher game, much lighter, but still good.

Just started reading Way of the Shadows by Brent Weeks, quite good, not your stereotypical fantasy so far (until they whip out a dark lord or long quest).

Disgrace by J. M. Coetzee.... a very, very good book. Give it a 9/10 because 10/10 is too much for the hateful main character.

I've read some pretty sick stuff before, but I'll get it eventually (after finishing the Takeshi novels) and let you know how it goes.

Yeah, I've read The Last Wish and about half of Blood of Elves. The only thing that put me off Blood of Elves were all the political discussions between the kings etc., I just wasn't in the mood for it. Will start reading it again once Times of Contempt is near release (if it ever does get published in English).
