True, of the two terrible ways to die, drowning seems to be better than getting chomped by zombies! There's an alternate ending that you can unlock by playing on Nightmare Mode (essentially every time you die you start at the beginning of the Act, can you imagine how frustrating that must be with all the cheap deaths in the trap section!). I watched the Alt ending on Youtube but honestly it's better not to - the only good it does is make the normal ending seem infinitely superior.
Spoiler: show
Essentially Randall was a psycopathic murderer and actually killed off all the other survivors, probably because killing his family made him snap.

Bioshock Infinite DLC: Clash in the Clouds

Bioshock Infinite is one of the best games I've ever played. This first bit of DLC doesn't do it justice at all. It's basically a bunch of challenges where you have to defeat certain enemies over four different maps. So you get none of the dialogue, story or atmosphere that made the main game so good.

Luckily the other DLC, Burial at Sea looks much better. Will be playing that next.

Burial at Sea was incredible. The first episode combined the best bits of the first game and Infinite into one very atmospheric shooty romp. The second episode was still good, but the sneaky take didn't sit all to well with me. I have yet to finish it, but I'm about 70% done with it...

I'll try Clash in the Clouds some time when I'm in the mood for an arena shooter.

Forza Motorsport 5

I've never been all that interested in racing games. Over the years I think I've only played Need for Speed Underground 2 and Grid... Oh wait and Ridge Racer 5 back in the day. However when I bought the XBox One from BeoTeK it had Forza 5 installed so I thought I'd give it a try.

I'm glad I did! It's incredibly relaxing. In fact it filled that same need that Audiosurf did. Beating times and racing. All it needs is my own soundtrack. Plus I'm surprisingly good at it. People who have played fps games with me know I'm pretty bad at that but with Forza I kick ass. Who knew?

I look forward to Forza Horizon 2 which I think will suit my game style even more. Since the only thing in Forza 5 that needs improvement in my eyes is the lack of racetracks. They could definitely have included some more.

Bioshock Infinite: Burial at Sea (Both Episodes)

I love Bioshock Infinite. It has moved me like so few games can. The story. The characters. The gameplay. The ending. So amazing!

And now two more episodes to continue the story and to explain more. I won't go into detail but if you liked Bioshock Infinite and you haven't played Burial at Sea yet then know it's a must play.

Great review! By the end of it I found my way onto your blog as well. You're definitely good with words. Are you currently in/hoping to get into this line of work?

Hey thanks brendanvb! Nah, I have no interest into getting into this line of work. The review was a favour and the blog is more for my MODO and programming hobbies.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

This game had been sitting in my Steam Library for years, I believe I won it as a Steamgift.
Going into this game with no prior knowledge or experience of this game, gotta say, it hit me like the first time I played Mass Effect 2.

Starting with the story:

The narrative really got me thinking about human/machine bonding (aka augmenting) and whether or not something of this nature should be acceptable or condemned. I would personally be for it, provided it works on the same principal as magic: "To work with mankind, never to rule over him/her". I do like the idea of mixing in real-world news, events, people, conspiracies and places whilst adding a fiction element (being the main plot); made it feel like more than just a game in that regard.

Gameplay:

This reminded me of a few of my favourite games: Mass Effect, Crysis and Splinter Cell. RPG elements (allowing for upgrades/modifications) can help to give you a real edge in and out of combat. A good variety of weapons gives you many ways of approaching a situation (loud, dumb and cool or silent, ninja warrior assassin). My initial choice of weapon was what made my approach to the game. I took a tranquilizer rifle and that pretty much set in stone how I was going to play the game from that point. Weapons can be hot-key customised. Would have liked to swap weapons within the hot-keys themselves; sadly could not - must be dragged from inventory.

Sneaking/stealth - works better than a lot of other games I've played. The ability to incapacitate or kill an enemy while in cover is a nice touch.

Gun-play - I did not use rifles and shotguns too often, if at all unless I had to kill someone. They are as effective as I would have hoped a gun would be.

Aug abilities - while many I found really useful, others I avoided almost altogether. The cloak felt like a waste of time, only time I really needed it was to get passed lasers (so as to not trigger an alarm, that was once. Let's just say I though it'd last longer (Crysis spoiled me in that regard, by comparison).

Side-quests - Definitely a nice addition next to the main plot, some to be found, others outright given.

GUI - No complaints other than no hot-key swopping.

Boss fights - they exist in this game, and have a trial-and-error means of completion - at least for me.

One thing I should mention is that many of the characters in dialogue look as though they have bobble-heads, which was funny-looking to me.

Soundtrack:

While I very much did like the soundtrack, some themes started becoming repetitive after a while.

Conclusion:

Felt very much worth the wait. Really enjoyed all the 30+ hours I invested. I definitely look forward to its successor.
The ending I chose felt conclusive though with a hint at a continuation.

If you've not played it, you owe it do yourself to do so.

Call of Duty Advanced Warfare

Great story (still very linear but i prefer the style of pacing compared to the mess blops 2 was) story keeps you hooked the whole time, you can see the game engine is still an evolution of the previous Cod engines so at times it looks impressive at other times it just looks very last gen but its definately a much better looking title than COD Ghosts.

the rpg like upgrading of the exo suit are also quite cool, overall i was pretty impressed and it was a breath of fresh air compared to blops 2 and ghosts which i really did not enjoy at all.

my rating 7.8 out of 10

The Crew

Recently finished it, and it is definitely one of my most favorite racing games of all time. Good selection of cars with more being added, great customization, the ability to make a normal tuner into a offroad ramming machine is pure awesomeness. Story mode was nice, not too long or too short. Unfortunatly I do not participate in the online PVP races because of the fact that being in South Africa makes the lag just too much when racing against other players.

A definitive 10/10 from me. It's one of the few games making me want to get the best rewards in all the races

Sniper Elite 3: Ultimate Edition 8/10

Good replay value. Graphics are not that great but the game play more than makes up for that. The tension that a game can deliver must surely be an indication of how good it can be.

. . . and Oh man! Those x-ray kill cam shots . . . awesome sense of accomplishment! Kidney shot . . . testicle shot
