Spec ops the line. 6.5/10

Basically a shooter on rails you have no control over the story that is unfolding.
Plot twist at the end but its kind of old now and was not at all surprising. You also run out of ammo so fast that you need to run and pick up another one with even less ammo and run to the next bad guy you killed to pick up his ammo or gun.

Strange, can't remember ever having a problem with ammo while playing this and I have finished it 3 times. Brilliant story and while you cannot control it (how many shooters do you know where you can?) you do at least have to make some hard choices during the campaign. But yeah, the shooting ain't the best, plain and simple third person shooter with no real unique gameplay mechanics.

Brilliant story is subjective since I found it boring.

I think it wasn't as much a story as it was a commentary on how we play violent games without feeling anything for all the people that get slaughtered along the way. I found it really interesting. The goal of the game was to make you feel uncomfortable about what you're doing. If you didn't feel uncomfortable, you probably weren't following the plot, or you might need to see a psychologist :p

Starcraft 2 Hots.

7/10 - imo it was better in WoL, but now new units make it not fun to play... Getting slightly annoyed with it. But its ok, I'll get over it and play again tomorrow lol

If you found it boring (i.e. you did not find the some of the things in the game disturbing) then you might need to see a psychologist. :p (Please don't take offense).

Red Dead Redemption

RED DEAD
REDEMPTION

[9/10]

"Grand Theft Auto, set in the Wild West."

[Story][9/10]

You take the role of John Marston.
A hardy, well-mannered gunslinger in the West seeking out an old "friend" to settle a score of the past.
You form many alliances from different group to help in assisting you in your pursuit of taking down your enemies, and theirs.

[Gameplay][9/10]

While it took me a while to get acquainted to the control-schemes, I eventually managed after a few hours and some trial-and-error. The cover system works as good as it does in GTA IV. They are many weapons in the game, and some are collected at later levels. Horseback-riding; while it took me a while getting used to the mechanics, I eventually figured it out, and started using it to my advantage.

Walking, sprinting and climbing were as good as it is in GTA IV.

Using the lasso was very fun, and I performed some hilarious, if not "sick" acts, all for the sake of enjoyment and a real good laugh. Animals can be skinned for their meat and fur, which can be sold at a decent price at any general store -- and depending on the type of animal skinned will determine how much you'll get for that specific animal.

There is also a Fame meter. Good deeds will grant you perks and good fame. Bad Fame will grant you infamy.
You also have an Honor meter. However, acts of aggression will reduce your Honor, and acts of good behaviour and helpfulness will grant you increased Honor.

You also have a Dead-Eye meter. Using this will give you a small window of slow motion in which you can select individually using an x to mark specific parts of a target, and do a fast-firing execution on each x marked.

Camp sites can be set up for resting and quick travel for various places on the map.

Different costumes can also be unlocked! Some are unlocked as the game progresses.

[Side-missions and mini-games][7.5/10]

Fun things you can do throughout the game:
Horse-shoes:

A game where you have 2 sand pits roughly 5-7m apart with a short pole in the centre of the pit - and it is your goal to try and throw the horse-shoe as close to the pole as possible. Pressing the Left [if I remember correctly] button will place you in an over-the-shoulder view in order to line up the shoe with the pole. Then, pressing R2 while moving your analog stick back and forth [right stick, if remembered correctly], you swing Marston's arm, (using the guide on the left side of the screen), until you reach the optimal swing distance, then letting go of R2, the horse shoe will be thrown. This is tricky and can take some practice, as it did me. Too short a swing, and it will land right in front of you, too hard a swing and the shoe will be flung, possibly over the sand pit.

Bounties are also collectible. Riding out to specific locations and eliminating all the enemies [bounty target included] will result in a cash amount your way. Capturing your target alive will result in a greater cash layout.

On your travels you may stumble across events that can help you to earn Fame and a possible cash payout.

[Sound][8.5/10]

Gun shots, horses, people and atmospheric sounds are easily distinguishable and sound very good.

[Graphics][7/10]

Graphically, the game isn't ultra-realistically-looking, but, it serves its purpose, and does so... well enough.

[Voice acting][9/10]

Voicing in this game is very good. I feel it plays a VERY important role in a game, as it drives the story and creates a greater sense of believability to the player. Conversations and cutscene voice acting really have you believing what you see on screen.

A brilliant cast of characters really adds life and fun to the game.

Overall:

Red Dead Redemption is a must-play to anyone who is a fan of Westerns and of recent GTAs.
I do highly recommend this game! Want a very good, and well-told action-adventure journey...? Red Dead Redemption is for you!

Red Faction Armageddon
Somewhat generic third person action romp…but it’s fun!

You play as Darius Mason. You screw up. You fight aliens. If you’re looking for deep character progression, look somewhere else. This is all space military with big, burly guys (and overly sexualised girls) shouting and running and shooting and exploding. The only time the main character displays any kind of emotion is near the end of the story, but even that is underplayed because KILL ALL THE ALIENS!

This game has one of the most impressive destructive engines that I’ve ever seen. Wow! If this is achievable with current gen, then I can’t wait for ‘next-gen’. Is there’s a wall between you and progress? Smash it down with your warhammer. You can’t stop progress, move on up soldier! Is a cowardly enemy is hiding in a building? Get your plasma cannon and blow it up (and watch to fall to the ground in thousands of lovely pieces). The destruction engine is so well done. But wait, there’s more! You can rebuild the things you destroy as well, and blow it up again. It’s just so much fun.

The gunplay is also very satisfying. There’s a good variety; you have the bog-standard guns for the people that get afraid when they don’t have an assault rifle or shotgun or something, but where it really shines is its take on some unique weapons. There’s the dual-wielded Banshee Pistols, the Plasma Beam (which melts enemies and the environment), the Warmaul (you whack people…in the face), the Plasma Cannon (shoots flaming balls of plasma), the Nano Rifle (the nanites eat whatever you shoot it at), the Rail Driver, the Singularity Cannon (it makes black holes) and finally, the Magnet Gun. There are also upgrades and you have four powers at your disposal; a “force push”, a shield barrier thing, a super-buff mode and a power that suspends all the enemies near you in the air for easy pickings.

So cool that it gets its own paragraph, the Magnet Gun is the best thing about RF: Armageddon. It’s basically a mixture between the Portal and Gravity guns. The power of magnetism comes into full destructive fruition with this gun.
1. Shoot magnet 1 at the wall of a building.
2. Shoot magnet 2 onto an alien.
3. Watch them collide and splat thanks to the hilarious physics engine
4. Profit?
The possibilities are endless. This is the gun that the game was made for. Without the fully destructible environments, it wouldn’t work half as well as it does. Good job Volition.

Why is there no FoV slider? If you get sick/nauseous easily when playing games with a low FoV, then you will not enjoy this from the start. Ah, but there is good news you see. Head on over to PCGamingWiki for a quick fix that makes everything better. The odd thing about this is that it’s an excellent PC port. There’s full DX11 options and all those other wonderful things that make the game look really pretty, so why couldn’t you take 10 minutes to include a bloody FoV slider? If you can manually set it in the config file, it really wouldn’t have been hard to make it an option in the settings menu.

They definitely could’ve worked on making feel less like Red Gears of Faction War 25. Not overly generic, but it needed a little bit more “something”. The destructive engine and semi-unique guns are fun to play with, but towards the end I was just waiting for it to finish. It was getting repetitive and there’s was a distinct lack of new guns and enemies towards the final boss fight. Also the plot is a little bit thin…and has a couple of holes. Overall though, it’s good action-y fun. It’s simple, but it’s good at what it does. There’s also a few co-op modes and some challengers, but I never played those. I recommend you pick this us if you’re into this genre. Chances are you already have it from one of the numerous bundles that it’s been a part of.

Last game I finished was The Last of Us - 10/10

I did not encounter any glitches or technical issues while playing it. The story is absolutely amazing, acting brilliant and the character development was spot on.

I've read many reviews and watched YouTube clips and reviews on this game and most everyone says it's a great game but you must really experience it for yourself. There are many little things in the game that really make it stand out and serves to draw you into the world and the story. Diaries that you pick up in abandoned houses tell stories of the people that either died there or tied to find sanctuary in another place. There are little bits of dialogue between the characters you play that also gives them "life" and it makes you care for them.

This is a longish game and well worth every Rand spent. Now on to the MP. :)

Spec Ops: The Line

There is a few games that when they are done, they leave you wonder about them. Yes this is a shoot-by-wire and yes it is a bit generic, but apart from all of that you might find it to be a tad different from what you've played so far concerning the norm.

This is going to be stuck in my head for a while, the story, the actions and what the fuck really happened. It has four endings with one of them being truly chilling if you think about it.

My total playtime was bout 10 hours which doesn't make it that long, but really you don't need an 100 hour game to tell a good story or at least throw a spanner in your wheels.

TLDR: Play it, its different.

Fallout: New Vegas

I liked it more than Fallout 3 and it is a good game. However I would have done more side quests and just continued playing if it wasn't for some bugs and design choices that made me just want to finish it in the end. I really wanted to join with the NCR but was denied the chance just because of the sequence in which I did quests. So silly. And the game crashed so often it was annoying. At one point I couldn't continue and had to use the console to get an NPC allow me to get further in the game.

The game would have been awesome if it wasn't for that.

Saints Row 4 - 7/10
It's a decent game. Got some comedy and some very funny references and the superhero aspect is quite cool. Glad I played it, but not really interested in playing it again. Well, maybe if I try co-op.
I must say though, for me SR3's intro gameplay is still one of the most awesome intros for a game... So I didn't think they were gonna beat that with SR4. The overall game was pretty decent though.

Saw you were playing that often and was wondering how you were doing. The game takes ages to complete. The game crashes are annoying though and some of the bugs were horrible. I remember in the one DLC I had to use the cheat to walk through walls in order to finish just because I did something wrong at the start of the DLC. I was not impressed.

It really is a shame that it's so buggy. Even with a mod that supposedly fixes all the bugs. Eh, it took so many months to finish. I'm so glad that I've got some holiday time now so that I can play some games. :D

Monkey Island 2: Special Edition

I used to love adventure games back in school. Monkey Island especially had a special place in my heart. These days I really find it hard to play adventure games though. As much as I want to love them they really are a chore to play. :) Oh well, still enjoyed it.

Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening (360)

Wow. I just love BioWare games. Dragon Age: Origins were great and so is the expansion. Dragon Age is the kind of game that I can just play forever. It's a shame that people generally didn't like the DA 2. Will try it soon though.

And the holiday! How great is it to finally have time to play games! I'm hogging this thread as I'm going through my backlog. Just so happy right now. :D

Mass Effect 3

It took a long time for me to complete (54 hours according to Origin, but I think their sense of time is like their sense of pricing: Shaky.)

Anyway, the combat is very good for what is an RPG at its heart. The story is good (not excellent, mind) with some parts falling below what I grew to expect from the previous installments.

What I liked:
The combat was for me the best in the series thus far. Also the weapon and power upgrades was fun tinkering with. Some missions had epic set-pieces that will be hard to forget. But...

What I didn't like:
The script. Story was good enough but the dialog was really cringe worthy at times (especially when Shepard got horny). Not the voice acting, mind you, but the script the actors had to deal with and the facial expressions of the characters at times... weird.

Final verdict:
I'm glad I got it on a sale. I would have felt a little bit cheated paying full price but the final few missions get things right and it gives closure to the story of Shepard.

7/10

Dust: An Elysian Tail

Old School non violent platform/adventure/rpg , thoroughly enjoyed playing this good story really fun gameplay,if you're looking for a button mashing extravaganza you're in for a treat as you obliterate enemies with your sword and spell mixes.

8/10

Batman: Arkham City

Even better than Arkham Asylum and that says a lot! When I started playing I didn't enjoy it that much but the further I got the more I loved it. The ending was brilliant!

After Batman and Catwoman I started playing Harley Quinn's Revenge DLC but it just put me off and I ended not finishing it. In my opinion the game should have ended with Batman and Catwoman. The voice of Batman in the DLC doesn't even sound right.

Oh well, as for the game itself? A definite must play!
