Loadout

Its actually a pretty damn good game.
I've only played around 7 rounds now but its surprisingly addictive and a lot of fun, its not a serious shooter by any means but it gives some big name games a run for their money.

8/10 for me.

"The Plan" -
Score: 8/10
Platform: PC (Steam)
Price: Free
Size: 120mb
Time to Beat: 3 to 5 minutes

This guy says it better than I ever could:

In order, here are the emotions I experienced during the three minutes it took me to play The Plan, the new free morsel from the Norwegian indie developer Krillbite: confusion, frustration, boredom, fear, amusement, delight, joy, enchantment, and regret. One of the things independent games ask us to do is accept that a three-minute game can be as valid as a thirty-hour one. Games like these make it hard to disagree.
- Joseph Bernstein, Buzzfeed

All I can add to it is that the developers say a hell of a lot about life, the universe and everything within that three minutes without using a single word.

Also:

I'm going to play this again tonight with sound turned down and with "The Fly" by U2 turned up :D

Knack (PS4)

It's a kiddy game, but i found it more fun that injustice.

Managed to clock it in around 8 - 9 hours, iirc.

Predictable storyline, some difficult boss fights, but other than that a fun time killer.

I rate it a 7/10

God of War: Ascension (PS3)

Not being a fan of God of War, I went into this with pretty much no expectations, but I was rather pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed the combat (felt more polished than GoW III) and the visuals were pretty impressive as well, but the story did nothing for me. I never really got interested in the story and just kept playing the game for the fun combat and to get to the boss battles (which are pretty damn awesome). Puzzles were decent too, although most of them are on the easy side.

While I really enjoyed the combat and would recommend the game to both fans of GoW and those who are not, I really think the series (and Kratos) is getting a bit long in the tooth now. I would rather Santa Monica Studio move on to a new IP for the PS4 but I would understand if they do another GoW.

7/10 is my score.

Don't Starve (Console Edition)

This was a game that I didn't even know that I wanted till I played it on PS4. Hot damn! It's Minecraft meets Tim Burton (Time Burton being my favourite director evaaar). This game is surprisingly deep, it is hardcore and it's use of seasons is just simply amazing! This game just blindsided me and now I cannot put it down. Love it :D

Final Fantasy 13: Lightning Returns

Now I know people didn't like FF13 nor FF13-2, I did, but Lightning Returns was a true let down for me. The combat is actually really good and I love the open world and customization options for lightning, but the fucking time limit pissed me off to no end! FF has always been about enjoying the story, getting to know the characters and getting lost in the world, LR tries so hard to keep you disinterested that it actually succeeds. When I actually got to experience the story I was actually enjoying! But fuck me, that time limit has seriously got to be one of the worst decisions made in this illustrious franchise's history. You are in a perpetual speed run, you cannot take the time to just walk around the city or wilds, you are constantly running and constantly clawing for more time. I would have preferred that Square Enix made the shortage of time evident in the actual dialogue and theme of the missions than have an actual clock ticking away.

It's a shame really, I really enjoyed Lightning as a character in FF13 (She was pretty much absent in 13-2), one of my preferred FF characters. Period. Her own game should not have been botched like this, such a fuck up.

McPixel

I won McPixel at SteamGifts. It looked interesting and original so I was quite happy when I won it. Would I recommend it to anyone else? No.

It's a good idea that's poorly executed. It could have been such a fun game but because everything is pixelated the fun of various things happening is severely limited. Also the amount of different actions that happen on a click are very small. It would have been a good game with nice 2D graphics and lots of different events and things to keep one interested.

The worst though is the music. There's only a couple of songs and you listen to it constantly.

The Last of Us : Left Behind DLC - 8 out of 10. Solid gameplay and story again, let a bit down by the length of playtime. I wantz mooooaar!

I just finished Castlevania Lords of Shadows 2 and I don't know what some of the critics where smoking when they played this game, but they sure as hell don't know what they are talking about.

Being a huge fan of the first game I expected a lot from this sequel and I was not disappointed nearly as much as the reviews made me think I would be. I loved almost everything about this game and enjoyed it thoroughly from beginning to end. Probably the only negative thing I have to say about the game is that the stealth sucks. It doesn't feel like it really belongs in the game and it also kind of breaks the illusion of being this powerful Vampire, but it's not nearly as bad as reviewers make it out to be. There are actually very few stealth sections in the game and they felt more like short puzzle sections to me.

Everything else about the game was awesome. The story was really good (also not nearly as bad reviewers made it out to be) and I really enjoyed getting lost in this universe (again). Voice acting was really good and the musical score is outstanding as well, but where the game really shines is the combat. And boss battles. Combat is really good and varied and there are quite a few skills to upgrade and master and the game has some of the best boss battles in the genre. There are quite a few bosses in the game and each of them was very different from the last.

All in all it was an awesome experience and a great way to end the Lords of Shadow. I seriously don't understand how some critics gave this game as low a score as 33.

@wlad : how does this compare to original? I really enjoyed the first one. Will I dig this one?

I'm sure you will dude. I loved the first one and I loved this one as well. It's different, but not in a bad way. Screw the critics and listen to the users.

Expeditions: Conquistador

A nice blend of tactical combat and consequence based exploration.
The player play as a Spanish conqueror on an expedition to explore/pillage/aid/whatever your choosing in Mexico.
Set your gender, pick your expedition team from a roster of varying personalities, and prepare to set sail.

The game really shines in the consequence based choices that has a lasting effect on as the player's journey progresses.
The combat is challenging. Getting caught unprepared in the night = slaughter.

The are some downside:
Half-way through the game, you need to send out your own hunting party in search for it. At one point it really felt like I was just doing things. One of the team member even asks if I knew where I was leading the party towards lol.

The music.. it's got 3 sound tracks. Exploration, combat and village. The exploration soundtrack doesn't loop, meaning that most of the time during exploring phase (which is the majority of the game), you only listen to ambient sound.

Overall: 7.6/10

Remember Me. 7.5

Good game with neat combat and an awesome atmosphere.

The ability to chain various Street Fighter's moves brings much joy :D

Marlow Briggs and the Mask of Death
Really had fun with this game. I'd never heard of it before but after watching the trailer I decided that it looked enjoyable... and it was. It's your standard hack and slash action game, with multiple enemies and crushing combos but it's pretty well executed.
The game looks good, with varied and colourful locations, the fighting can get a bit repetitive in places but for the most part the gameplay is nice and varied.
One of the highlights is the tongue-in-cheek humour throughout the game. The game pokes fun at the genre stereotypes and the verbal "swordplay" between Marlow and the Mask of Death that accompanies you is often genuinely funny.

The game will take you about 8 hours to finish, which is long enough and ensures that the game doesn't become a chore to finish. I would recommend playing on Hard difficulty to have a bit of a challenge.

Verdict: Recommended for those who play games to have fun.

Guacamelee!
Simply superb "metroidvania" platformer. The game oozes character and style. The platforming is tight and intuitive (a controller is seriously recommended), the art style is fantastic as well as the world it immerses you in. Once again, this is a game that knows how to use humour to make things even more enjoyable.
The difficulty balance is perfect, as you progress in the game, not only do you gain new abilities and skills but you really learn how to use them to maximum effect. My favourite aspect of the gameplay would have to be the puzzle-like platform sequences to reach hard to find chests. You'll find this game is both a test of problem solving and dexterous skill.

Verdict: A must-play! No one should miss out on this superb game (unless of course you are irrationally prejudiced against platformers.)
