2-pass is a method whereby the encoder examines the file in order to determine the best way to fit the data into the required bitrate.

It keeps the quality high with the space limitations most encodes need (youtube, series,etc)

It will be much slower encoding than normal but your video will look a lot better.
 
What should the average size be for a 30min video to upload to Youtube?

I'm getting sizes ranging from 1gb to 8gb which is insane.

A good 1080p should be 15000kbps...

So 15000kb/s x 30min x 60sec ÷ 8= 3 375 000 bytes or 3gb. But that is very high quality for youtube.

You can drop the bitrate quite a lot or just do 720p/i max for youtube. The difference in upload size will be substantial.

It is all up to you though. A minimum of 8000kbps for 1080p and 4000kbps for 720p is recommended. But this is a Computer Generated source so you could probably get it lower.

Besides Sony Vegas Pro, what else is out there for editing? Need to take out the audio and add music (GF rages on ts a lot).

Have you tried google? Unfortunately all the good programs are expensive, but if all you want to do is dub you can even try Windows Movie Maker :fear:

Which is more reliable? Asking people who have done it or going through a bunch a really useless Google add-driven programs?

Granted. Are you doing cutting and stuff as well? Effects? Do you mind paying sone dollar?

Cutting and effects would be my ultimate goal. I don't mind paying dollar if its worth it. Obviously I'm not going to become a professional with it so it'd have to be reasonable.
