Roccat Kave Solid 5.1 Headset

I'm running my Kaves on a Xonar D2X. No problems with volume. I have it set to 6 channel 5.1 in the Asus software, and 5.1 in the windows setup. Setting 8 channel with 5.1 speakers in asus and 7.1 in windows setup with rear speakers disabled also works.

Scan around on http://brainbit.wordpress.com/, there might be a solution or a better driver to try. I know the Xonar has a slight delay to the rear speakers that sounds horrible on the Kaves (like a reverb in a bathroom) that you can disable with a batch file or regedit.

That said, I mainly use my Logitech G51 speakers for music/movies/games and switch to my Kaves for games late at night when the neighbours get stabby. Almost got G35 headphones, but I didn't want to waste my D2X.
 
Just got mine a few days ago. Must say, so awesome.

Adjusted the equalizer according to some settings I found online, got AC3filter for MPC and a thing called WinampMatrixMixer which is basically a adaptation of AC3filter for Winamp... And holy crap. Everything is converted to 5.1, MPC for movies/series and Winamp for music. Obviously they are just kinda converted and not recorded for 5.1, but way way better than any stereo headphones I ever heard. Anyone that says 5.1 headphones are a gimmick, just need to pop a 5.1 DVD into their drive and fire these babies up.

Now I just need to get my Xonar DS (currently on Realtek onboard) and I'll be in audio heaven.

I can definitely recommend them. On stock settings I wasn't really that impressed, but with some tweaking and AC3filter, epic.
 
Until you get that Xonar, look up "Realtek HD to X-Fi mod". The audio quality won't improve (by a whole lot), but the feature-set available to you as well as the quality of surround sound effects reproduction does improve significantly.

*edit* Oh yes, be forewarned, it can be a bit difficult to get working properly, but it's well worth going through the effort.

Also for speakers' use, once you're done setting it up, go into your advanced sound settings in the windows control panel and adjust your distances and gains for your speakers. For headphones you should be able to leave all of that at no-modification.
 
Just ordered a Xonar D1 from Take2 for R577 :) I looked into the "Realtek HD to X-Fi mod" but it seemed like a lot of effort and I should be getting my Xonar sometime this week so not gonna stress about it now.
 
For anyone who is interested, Zaps has the Kave on sale - R639. Got mine last week - truly enjoying using them for gaming, one of the best purchases I've made.
 
I have had very few problems with my Kave, until now.. The microphone went dead suddenly, checked that it wasn't a faulty connection to the PC, definitely the microphone itself. Was quite disappointed by this I would have expected a little more out of them, barely a year old.

What on Earth makes you say that sir!:eek:

They are good, no doubt about that, but like we said in previous posts there are draw backs, but that's to be expected in most consumer electronics/PC components. The Kaves, are solidly built, seriously, as if they have cast iron bits inside or something. Draw back of this being it's weight on ones head. Good headset, sound is spot on, no complaints there. Microphone is crisp and concise. But, again, drawbacks include the effect it has on your head after pro-longed usage (3+hours imo) aswell as the microphone being a little flimsy. The little plastic cap fell off mine which resulted in the microphone itself being uncovered and prone to knocks etc.:)
