Rumour: AMD's HD 6000 series out in October

I am rather anxious to see what this does to the pricing, I still dont believe that Nvidia has a card that is better bang for buck than an ATi competitor. Hopefully I can get my hands on a decent 5800 series card when the prices come down.

That is true but i was waiting for much better performance because my 4890 is still kicking ass. Beats a 5770 for a older card. The 5850 is also not too much better that it either. so i would have to get a 5970 or 2x 5870 to really see a difference. That is why i am waiting. I also wanted to see what Nvidia was going to come up with. So i will see what the 6000's bring and make a choice. I still think that 2x 5870's or 2x 5970's will kick anything that the 6000's come up with.

5850 is the sweet spot atm...

Yeah was actually looking at some benchmarks. 5850 is definitely an awesome card, it holds its ground against the 4890 and beats the GTX 285

ati... it looks like a ferrari outside, but is more like a dungbeetle inside. /strokes nvidia card :D

/also gets hazmat suit

...i'm still due for gpu upgrade. will see when time comes what i take :)

i'll say this. from my short stint with a 4850 from previously using nothing but Nvidia cards, AMD/ATI is a very good alternative if you don't like seeing green the whole time :)

and were it not for some unforseen (and weird) incompatibility issues and crashes with it, i probably would've bought a 5870 and not 2 460's.

yep, my 4850 HIS brought me many powerplay bugs apart from the weirs crashing and compatibility issues.

not sure if i could bet on red again after that. even it if was just the 1 in 100000 cards that was fubar *shrugs*.

True true, ATi does seem to have those weird lil problems. But must say my 5770 seems to be handling rather well, I thought that was the best option at the time considering its cross-firing capability. Seems like the ATi cards are quite solid but the drivers are crappy.

I am keen on the 5850, looks pretty impressive. Unfortunately my board only supports crossfire and so the GTX460 SLI, isnt really an option for me, a little oversight when I upgraded.

just remember the drivers are still new with the nvidia. they still need some time to mature they are getting better the whole time with the sli setups. also what i would do if you have not do this already is use driver sweeper to get rid of all the ATI drivers and then if that does not work do a nice fresh install of windows 7. It really does the trick. I have not done a fresh install yet, I am just waiting for the shop to get more stock then i will get the second one, do a bios update and a fresh install of windows 7 with another intel ssd added to the raid setup.

it should be about a Gtx260, if you take that the GTX480 is the same as the GTX285 and the GTX470 is the GTX275 etc. But by no means do they have the same performance. The GTX460 is much much better than the GTX260. It even beats the GTX285. Its just such a good card.

Sweet. Seriously considering this one, my GTS250 is hanging in there, but it's wrinkles are starting to show.

Or you could just SLI it?

Dont know about that hey. The GTX460 is cheap enough to upgrade to. The performance difference between a SLI GTX250 and one GTX460 oc wont be that much difference. there are quite a few reviews that you can see the difference. and you get dx11 goodness from the GTX460.
