Should I skip Assassins Creed 3 and play AC4

I've heard many people say that AC3 wasn't any good and I should skip it, what do you guys think?

I have played AC1, AC2 and Brotherhood.. Revelations also needs my attention.

Why not just skip anything after 2, if you've played 1&2 you've played them all.

LOL - Since I own AC 1 through 3, I want to deny this statement. But I simply can't! The truth is a cruel mistress!

I'm gonna have to completely disagree with you there. Each new AC game brings with it a bunch of new gameplay mechanics, some not so good (tower defence in Revelations) and some awesome (Brotherhood mechanic in Brotherhood). You can call me a fanboy if you want, but each AC game is very different from the next. Sure, most of them have the same controls (with slight variations here and there) and the same tailing missions, etc., but that's irrelevant IMO. If somebody says that they are just all the same then I can't see how that person has played all of the games, because they all seem different to me.

I loved ACIII, was my favourite game in the series (except for Revelations) until I played IV, which is now my favourite. I can't wait for Unity or the (as yet unannounced) game for the PS3/X360 gen consoles. To each his own though, but there is a reason that AC is the best selling franchise Ubisoft has...

Ac4 is way better than Ac3 to be honest I say go for it.

If you decide to go for it be wary of the 6gb+ patch waiting for you. It completely broke my game refused to launch after patching was done.Had to reinstall the whole game and now I only play offline thanks to the patch. Also the game isn't optimised without the 6gb patch so it runs like shit as well :s

Doesn't even seem like the game is optimised after the patch.

I like the AC 4 probably thanks to its varied maps. But hopefully, Ubisoft will think a bit harder to improve the gameplay in the next AC Unity. The Splinter Cell + Prince of Persia combinations gets really boring. They should also improve the combat system as well, as well as in Splinter Cell series. It always annoys me of how it's really easy to paralyze the enemies when we are close to them. I mean, i would love to see some real human combat system like defending, upper cut punch, low kick or some kungfu kicks. That would be awesome. But not that complicated like in realistic life. Only a simple combat system, maybe like in the Batman Arkham games.

i played AC4 for a while but got rather bored with tiring ship battles. i know that this was a high point for most people, but i think after AC Brotherhood, the series has just been flogging a dead horse. I was fine with the repetition in the very first AC as it was such a fresh new title, but i have now had enough.

I would skip it. I found AC3 to be rather boring and Connor to be a very dull main character. AC4 is a lot more fun.

I actually think Brotherhood was very good, but yeah I didn't like Revelations or AC3 at all.

You could totally skip AC3 and go straight to Black Flag.
AC3 has the worst pacing and the most annoying lead, which is what totally put me off it. Black Flag is one of the best games I've played in a long time and I can't recommend it enough.

Personally I wouldn't skip AC3. ACIV is loaded with spoilers so if you decide to play AC3 then the whole story and ending has been killed.

Play AC3 but skip the extras and run through the storyline, it's still a fun game and it helps you get comfortable with the new controls.

I've played all AC games up to 3 except for revelations. just recently bought it.
I played AC3 to death. I loved it, it was amazing. Connor is awesome, his story is awesome. Its the same story as Star Wars with regards to Luke and Darth Vader. Connor is more of a serious guy compared to Ezio but more badass.

The setting is also awesomely fresh compared to europe. Wild North America, running around the early settlements and surrounding forrests was a breath of fresh air.

AC3 also ends Desmonds story. I think, have to check AC4 out to be sure but didn't seem like a Cliff Hanger to me.

*edit* A lot is revealed through Desmonds story.

No cooking clue why the game was slated.

Okay settled, I'm skipping AC3. Thanks for the input guys.

[edit]

But I so hate skipping a game in a series... More thought required, maybe just quicly run through the story

Asking if you should skip AC3 is like asking if you should have another glass of milk after consuming 5 glasses of it...all of which tasted the same...smelt the same...looked the same...

If you don't get what I mean...

If you still don't get what I mean

On a side note, I thought Assassin's creed Black Flag was amazing and incredibly stunning to look at...I spent hours just looking at the ocean and the islands...lol

I couldn't agree more.

Lol, that's pretty funny, but sadly not true. Call it what you will but the milk still tastes pretty awesome to me, each glass with its own distinct flavour. :p

Like I've said in my previous post, each AC is very different from the last, if you can't see that then I don't know what to tell you. These games have a decent development cycle and a massive amount of people working on each one and it shows. I'm not saying there aren't issues with all of them that should be resolved (navigation can sometimes be problematic, tailing missions, etc.) but the good outweighs the bad by far.

lol I know we don't agree about the AC series, at least we share a love of The witcher lol

On a side note:

The 1st AC was pretty awesome because it was a new IP, and I loved it to be honest...
The 2nd AC was also pretty good, I'll be honest....
Then they noticed..Call of Duty...and how it made millions by doing a yearly release and they thought...Ooooh we could do that with AC..and all they did was ruin it up until AC Black Flag which was awesome because it was different....

AC Black Flag was like going from 5 glasses of normal dull milk...to chocolate flavored milk. Its still milk but its different and yummy and so much better than those other glasses of plain, flavorless. same old shit from last week milk...lol

Lol, I'll agree with you on the Witcher but when it comes to AC we definitely have very different opinions.

You can keep saying they're all the same and I'll keep saying they are different, because they are. AC1 was a great, but flawed game. AC2 fixed most of the issues of the first game and introduced one of the best protagonists in gaming. Brotherhood introduced the brotherhood mechanic which was awesome and it also came with (awesome) MP for the first time. Revelations had the tower defence (not great), the hookblade (awesome), the first person platforming with Desmond (not great), the bomb crafting (awesome, both Altair and Ezio, etc. AC3 had a fresh lead character (really don't get the hate foe Connor, he is such a badass) and mixed up the formula with hunting and crafting, naval battles and a homestead to build up and more. Black Flag had the pirate thing (which is awesome) and improved the naval battles and gave us a huge map with a ton of stuff to do.

There is a reason the franchise has sold more than 70 million copies and I am looking forward to seeing where it is heading next.

Yeah because people like milk... :D

Quoting sales figures isn't exactly the best way to prove its a brilliant series though.

The Call of duty franchise has sold 139,600,000 Million copies...

One of the worst games in the franchise (Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 3) sold 26,500,000 copies The highest sales figures of all the COD games...and its was the worst lol.
