I'm thinking about it as the poll has spoken for itself, but there's no need for censorship if there's still a sensible debate going.
As long as it's all above board then it's all good.
+1
I'm voting for 'swearing in context' though. Sometimes the occasional ****, ****, or ***donkey***** can be rather cathartic.
Nudity is not offensive as well? Can you prove that nudity is offensive? Nope, naked chick pics allowed on mygaming!
Ok, that was just being silly. I think the points are made, and the vote is majority to swearing allowed - can we lock this thread and get back to gaming topics?

It's 15 pages in, what is going to be said has already been said. What is the point of those same points just being regurgitated over and over again? It's keeping/getting people riled up and IMO that is doing more harm to this forum than any amount of swearing ever will do. Just take a look at the more senior members dropping like flies or thinking about it![]()
So we ban swearing. What next? Oh, well, so-and-so is offended by homosexuals, so no talking about any of that. Oh, and so-and-so is a creationist, so please don't talk about science. Oh, and so-and-so is a conservative, so none of this liberal bull****, please.
It's really irritating when people try and take a simple, straightforward premise on one very specific topic to mostly irrelevant extremes, isn't it?
RustPuppet, these discussions usually die a natural death soon enough anyway.
If we're talking about swearing in the context of gaming (which is, I think, what this forum is about) then it's cool. Likewise, if we're talking about homosexuality or racism in gaming (the latter has already popped up a few times here) it's just as cool.
However, if someone chucks in a '****' or a 'mother****er' just to be provocative, as I'm sure would be the context of such comments about homosexuality/creationism/etc., then that is most certainly not cool.
You can't lump censorship of swearing into quite the same category as those other taboos.

I know, but we have to consider what's best for the overall vibe of the forum. I'd rather have two members send me snotty PMs about what a conservative fascist I am than have a hundred members close their MyGaming browser tab with a bad taste in their mouths.
Read my post again. I think you missed something in it.![]()

Like I said. You wanna behave that way, that's fine. But don't expect me to also behave like that just because you do.Nevermind me then. It seems chivalry is seen as a weakness.
Yes, because a country and the voluntary participation in the forum are really identical.Sounds very ANC attitude like![]()
Swearwords are, as the name suggests, words. Words are used for communication. Communication is defined as the exchanging of ideas between two sapient individuals. This shows the point of drawing a line. There is nudity on TV, games - we're all naked under our clothes - why cant we post nude pictures on the forums? Sex is also natural, in games, on tv... internet has tons of that too. Why cant we post porn here? These arguments against and for swearing apply to these topic. How can you justify swearing and not nudity, not sex? Some people are offended - bah, some people are offended with swearing. It's distasteful.. why, I feel that way about swearing too. "It's the rule" - well, that was with the swearing too. Ultimately a line needs to be drawn. This example is a little bit extreme - but it highlights a point because it's extreme.
Nope. Those things have no relevance to the forum itself. Communication, and discussion of these topics within the context of their appearance in the game, is indeed relevant. So lets post some gore and nudity, and some sex too... hey, it's in the games!
It does disprove the notion that filtering swearing is somehow going to be "pg-13".All 13 year old have seen themselves naked, does this justify child porn on the site? Of course not.. unless it's used in context? of course not. Rules (and laws) are set.
Yeah, that's the standard vBulletin EULA, designed to cover the arse of every forum hoster everywhere. Do you really think mygaming wrote all that legalese?Ahem, and I quote:
"By agreeing to these rules, you warrant that you will not post any messages that are obscene, vulgar, sexually-oriented, hateful, threatening, or otherwise violative of any laws."
