Signature sizes reminder

In the forum back-end I can't limit signatures by line count. I have limited it to 200 characters which should be more than enough.

Because a lot of signatures are pulled from external sources using the tag, we can't automatically control the sizes. We can't disable the tag only for signatures either, disabling would have a forum wide effect.

We also wouldn't want to prevent sigs from external sources, as many people use those automatic stats generation signatures.

We're just going to have to rely on good old fashioned common sense.

Repeat transgressions will result in a temporary signature removal for the offending user.

You guys are still really pushing the size limits with those things...

They are about 2.5 times the size stipulated in the rules?

I'm going to have to start drawing a line somewhere otherwise people continually upload larger and larger signatures.

They look cool and everything, but they take up a good quarter of the page.

How is my signature I tried to keep it minimal? It is 533 X 111 so about 20 - 30 over
 
Is 500 x 90 not big enough for you guys? James, perhaps you should make a list of allowed website generated gamercards for Xbox live, Steam and the Playstation Network. :)

Then only those specific gamercards may exceed the limit.

I suppose that is fine.

You see guys, I'm not trying to be an annoying dick about it. It's just an issue of keeping the forum visually friendly for everyone.

Maybe you are right; perhaps we should start strictly enforcing the size limits... It's not something I want to do, but let's see how everyone reacts to the reminder to tone down the size.

The suggestion of approved websites generated gamercards is one to consider.

Don't think people see you as that I also find the oversized signatures visually unappealing when trying to read posts.

If they have problems with the height we can increase it to 150? Don't see a problem with their width. It is mostly the height which makes it obscure.

well having the limit of one image does help but somehow some people seem to "bypass" it a bit.

My signature works for me, although... it would be nice to have a

The thing is, the rule is already 90 height, and people are pushing against that. Imagine if the new rule is 150, they might start to push larger than that too, and things get out of hand.

maybe the sigs should be limited to gamercards (xbox, ps3, steam, xfire etc) and text only (text can be philosophical) cause I dont see a reason for oversized sigs with half naked chicks, anime characters, cars etc (that just make the site load slower on our already slow internet in this country) and it has nothing to do with gaming.

only a (informative) gamertag with (some partial informative) text :p atleast its not the size of some the other sigs on the site which rivals most peoples desktop wallpapers in size :wtf:
 
I've made mine smaller now - although I don't particularly think it was all that intrusive, since its background mostly matched the forum (well ... it was transparent :p ). Current one is still a little over the height barrier though.

I see the number of lines is being enforced now too.

It's great you're doing this, when I saw this image on reddit, MyG immediately came to mind.
 
Well, just a 'heads up'; I'm going to be revising the signature size rules to make provision for various sized gamercards. Then I will enforce the rules by removing signatures that are too large.
