So who's getting Dark Souls?

This game...

I fired it up last night and in the first level I've already dies 3 times.
 
Goddammit this thread got me all excited now. Is it worth it if you are only going to play SP for at least 3 months before gaining access to multiplayer?
 
Got mine about an hour ago! Can't wait for home time. :D

Yes.

Also, this game is tough as fucking nails, I have already died about 8 times. Will probably be at 50 deaths before 17:00.

Hope it's not frustratingly difficult......
 
Getting my ass handed to me by the Taurus Demon. It's already frustratingly difficult, think I should take a break and go shoot some people in the face to relax for a while.
 
I'm keen to hear some feedback on those of you who are playing it this weekend. Considering the price drop I'm keen to grab a copy.
The demo at Rage was quite cool and got me interested, never played Demon Souls, couldn't ever find it in stores :/

Been playing since about 9pm (GMT) and its now just after 1:15 (GMT). All I can say is Fsking EPIC game. Took down the Asylum Demon on my first attempt after which it got harder and all the familiar anxieties and elation of Demon's Souls game RUSHING back. Took me about 3 or 4 tried to take down the Taures(SP) demon after which I promptly jumped down to a teasure platform where I was soon ass raped by a Knight, couldn't get back to the platform and as a result lost about 4K souls and 3 bits of Humanity. "Dark Souls giveth and it taketh away."

I love the reworked "health pack" system. I remember having more different flavor moon grass then I knew what to do with in Demon's Souls and after forging some upgraded kit and picking up a nice ring I regenerated about 12 points of health every couple of second upon which the moon grass just accumulated in my inventory. Similarly the reworked Magic system (I am yet to try it out as I am playing a Wanderer which has no magic abilities on start up) will mean its no longer going to be a quick way out. The new combat mechanics like plunge strike and the leaping attack are brilliant. I took some time to learn the "Parry and Riposte" move which deal massive damage. Enemy AI is also been beefed up, where as before you could rely on bossed to get stuck in terrain now they can jump onto higher platforms. All in all, all the good things from Demon's Souls, non of the bad (so far) and a whole lot of new stuff. Forget all the 3's, Dark Souls is GOTY without a doubt, this is how everygame should be.

Plunge Attack from the top of the tower you come out of, then get in close (stay between his legs) and just hammer away at that crotch until he croaks. use your roll function as he prepares to stirke.

It all depends on the play. Death is a given in Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, you will die the idea is to learn from it and not keep making the same mistakes. Learn the enemy's attack pattern, practice and perfect parry, block and striking at the right time. This isn't some straight forward hack'n'slash, you charge in without looking and you will die, again and again and again. But like Isengard said, its hardly every difficult due to some dev trick, every death is fair. If you die its due to your own failings as a warrior.
 
Fuck me, this game is brutal! Still strugglinf with taurus demon, almost had him and then he jumped on me out of nowhere. As a result I now have one less working PS3 controller. :(

Weirdly I have never thrown or otherwise injured any of my controllers. Did you try the tip I suggested?
 
Are you sure thats the taurus demon you talking about. The reason I ask is because you don't start on a tower when you fight him. You walk out on a bridge then he suddenly jumps in front of you. I have done repeated plunge attacks from the one tower on the bridge (thats how I almost beat him), but at the last bit of his health bar he jumped on and killed me. I just think I'm not in tue right mindset for this yet, will try again tonight.

Yep, I'm sure (giant bull thing with a club/mace type weapon). You go up two flights of stairs, go through a light wall. 2 archers behind you high, ladder next to the path through which u came.
Plunge attack and then stay between his legs, if it looks like he is going to jump roll. That's how I got him. Which class you playing?
 
Man oh man this game is so hard! After dying like 6 times trying to beat the Taurus Demon I eventually came on a fool proof strategy.

Spoiler: show
You start the fight by doing the plunge attack from the tower, then immediately start running to the opposite end. Once the Taurus catches up (and he will very quickly), run back to the other end and climb the tower again. Repeat the process one more time and you will be victorious


There are worse things waiting after the Taurus though. :P

I also managed to beat the tower knight that you see if you go down the stairs just before you go up to fight the demon. It was not easy, but now I have an item to upgrade my armor with. :D

Back to hell I go now. :eek:

Yeah thats what I did, but he jumped on me right at the end. Playing with Wanderer. I think it's the mindset. Will try again tonight.
