South African Licensing System *PUKE*

Well, for this young motorist, it seems 6 is the lucky number.

After 6 tries, I today, finally passed my license... legitimately... without bribing and without just getting lucky and having a half asleep examiner.

Anyone who wants to rant about their experiences with the system, now is your chance... I'm too lazy. Lets just put it this way, If i could redo, I would save all the money I wasted on lessons and rebookings etc. and have bought my license straight up last year through a driving school so I would know it was real. I have wasted much time in ques and much money on rebookings, lessons and buying one license which turned out to be fake.

I got my learners, drivers and bike licence at my first attempts. :D And for my Bike I didn't even go to a instructor, just rocked up and did what the examiner said.

Got mine on the first pass, the youngsters of today *erm*

Got both learner's and driver's on first try. But you need to understand that I first got my driver's licence in Germany. Moved here a few years ago, and by the time I got 'round to converting my licence, all stations refused. Apparently I left it for too long. So I went through the excruciating process of getting a licence here. The worst part of it was standing in the queue at the traffic departments... But the learner's test itself is a joke, it's beyond me how anyone with half a brain can fail it. The driver's test, objectively, isn't that difficult either. If your driving school is worth their money, they know which route your tester is going to take. Obviously, with the way things are being done in this country, there are a lot of 'other' factors that dictate the outcome. I reckon my tester just noticed that I wasn't in the mood to be trifled with when I rocked up for the test.

But the licensing system in this country is horribly flawed. You can clearly see it by the amount of morons on the road who have no business there because they can't drive for sh**.

Maybe because we have over 2 million illegal licences in just Gauteng.

Passed first time, perhaps you should've been actually learning to drive during all those lessons?

I have wasted much time in ques and much money on rebookings, lessons and buying one license which turned out to be fake.

And supported the corruption and problems in this country. Well done.

Well done :-)

I got my learners then let it expire :( then when I wrote the test again I failed 'cos I thought I knew the answers, Then I studied and passed and did my drivers test the same day and passed.

That was 18 years ago though so I guess that I've forgotten most of the test now anyway...

Passed my learners and drivers first time when i was 18 (8 years ago).

But since then, I've done my bike learners a few times, and failed that a couple of times. Damn easy to fail, the questions are friggen dodge sometimes.

Got mine on the 3rd try, for me my problem was a combination of unluckiness and nerves. I could drive fine and do everything right in practice but in the test situation things went wrong.

The thing is getting your licence is the start really, you only properly learn how to drive after you've got your licence. K53 doesn't teach you to anticipate traffic patterns, be aware of gaps to escape into if you can't brake in time, wet weather handling and actually looking out the front windscreen instead of your mirrors all the time ;)

I was prepared to to tell the guy doing the test to fuck off if he asked for a bribe, cause most of my friends had been asked for bribes.

Got my learners on my 3rd try and drivers on my 1st try. Had to argue with the examiner about where the speed sign was and that I was in a 80 zone and not a 60 zone when I accelerated
