SSD pricing in SA compared

I will probably buy one after 5 years or so when they are much cheaper.

Do these offer a major gaming improvement on PC's?

On your OS drive yes, its extremely quick. But I am not sure, but thier life span still not that grea if you write alot to them. I was intending to put one in but its not viable option yet as 64GB to small and anything bigger to expensive.

Yeah, I'm still holding out on an SSD. I want at least a 128GB for my OS drive on my home PC, just so that booting to Windows and loading big programs is nice and fast. It will also help initial loading times of games - but looking at the size of my steam folder alone (360GB) it's not really a viable spend at this time.

I do have first hand experience on how it improves your life for work however. My work laptop is equipped with a 128GB SSD and everything from booting up in the morning, to working with Photoshop and e-mails is super fast, and over the course of the day probably saves me many minutes of frustration.

local retailers are selling entry-level capacity SSDs for the price of a good night out.
R800 night out? yoh bit heavy.

I'm gonna fix that problem with symlinks etc. The main speed boost I reckon will be on the small files due to it being random access. So all the large files 500mb+ go onto a hdd and rest onto ssd. For steam I reckon that will at least halve ssd space I need.

Good to see the prices coming down. It's looking like a perfect time for an upgrade.

I own a 60GB SSD, decided to go with the smallest just to see if it is worthwhile. I must honestly say I will never go back to a normal hard drive. My PC boots in less that 10 seconds, with all my applications starting up immediately (Windows 7). Visual Studio, Microsoft Office etc opens in a second.

There isn't much of a gaming difference I have noticed other than faster loading speeds. SSD all the way for me :D
