Star Trek Online - General Discussion

First thing's first - if you get it, prepare for patches! They've released like 3 this week already and the game was released on Tuesday.

You can probably budget for a good 500Mb or so. It's hard to say exactly as it gives a percentage based on how far the patching is, not the download.

Sorry for the double post, but as I'm getting to play more I'm starting to get more and more into it :) Quite enjoying myself. Just a few server lag issues they need to sort out.

What do you mean by in-game downloader? Like only patch the client directly from Cryptic and not download the patches separately?

I have learned my lesson with MMO's - Look into them roughly 4 months after release to get a better experience / picture.

Hi

I was wondering if anyone had any problems with the auto updater, when trying to launch the game?

Mine seems to just hang there for hours on end and then an error pops up saying the connection has been idle for 2 long.

I added STO on my Firewall exception list and a bunch of ports , did Nettest and data is filtering though, slowly but there is activity.

Closed AVG/Steam and all other non essential processes but still no love. If anyone has a work around and can help i would really appreciate it. Until then back to Lotro untill i can get this working.

It's coming ;)

Always has and is still working perfectly on my side.

Got past that issue thx was a corrupted launcher exe. file, patched created a char, but now getting disconnected from server errors, so still no playtime.

Ah sham man, sounds like you're having really bad luck.

I'm just getting annoyed with all these patches! There's been like one every day/every second day since launch...basically all over 150Mb.

Thank goodness I have the bandwidth for it. The time, however, I don't.

Muhahah, im in, played about 6 hrs so far, still get the occasional dc , but so far been having fun.

I found that as time has gone along I've enjoyed myself more. At first I was a bit underwhelmed and found the interface rather clunky, but once I got the hang of it and understood how everything works and fits into each other I began enjoying myself far more.

Considering I'm going to be quite strapped for time I can quite easily see it becoming my casual MMO.

^^ If you live for MMO's, no...not yet, to be honest.

If you play an MMO as you would play any other game, and as a result don't require thousands upon thousands of hours worth of content at your immediate disposal right off the bat, then yes.

As I said in the article, where Cryptic branch out feature-wise will be very important for its future. People will get bored of combat, and Eve is excellent in that department as it offers a host of other things to do, which are all important and integral to the game's economy.

Eve will be a tough act to follow, but if Cryptic use it as inspiration for STO and adapt it well, they could very well have a winner on their hands. For now, however, the general consensus and what I personally feel is that it's fun, but it feels like it's lacking something.
