Star Wars Battlefront - Official Thread

So, starting out, everyone was super critical and negative about Star Wars Battlefront. Everyone was looking at the franchise with rose tinted glasses, remembering the old times played with it. But this new game is going to make it's own mark, it's own awesomeness. I've not seen anything from this game that I don't like yet, and the 17th cannot come quicker....I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!

I am not getting it damnit! :p :D

LOL!!! I am seriously thinking of getting it, more and more every day.
I was looking for a image to reply, found this one and gave up..

Popped in to check if any MyGers were fortunate enough to be playing already through EA Access. I am disappoint.

Other questions/thoughts:
- does Origin/EA do preloading?
- the Base Commander game in the SWB Companion app is a cool time killer.
- I have no Origin "friends". Anyone want to be my friend to occasionally get a game in together? (Full disclosure: I'm really, really crap at multi-player shooters :) )
- I'm a huge fan of the SW universe, and like some others I was initially very skeptical about the path the game was taking. Like others though, I've come around since then and am now unashamedly hugely hyped for its release and broke my after Batman self-promise to not pre-order another game.

Unfortunately I cannot justify the cost of EA Access to just play the game a few days before launch, but I was really tempted. And welcome to the Hype Train!!!

I will be playing the game on Xbox One, so you can add me as friend on Origin, but it's not gonna help you get a game. And yes the companion app is a rather fun time waster.

Thanks DGH. Will add later today. Even though we'll be on different platforms you'll still be able to get a good chuckle out of my stats :)

EA Access is a bit more than that though. I have it, i wanted to play NHL 2015, and it was either pay R500 for the full game, or pay R300 for the annual sub (and play that and a few other games for free). So i went with the sub. It is not a bad deal if there is one or two of the free list of games you want to play (but don't want to buy). The early access bonus on top of all of that is just a bonus methinks (i wouldn't get it for that alone either).

I just wonder how servers will work, I read they will have dedicated servers, but no server browser. So how do you join a game with your friends. From the origin client?

Here you go, i'm not sure whether EA changed their minds on this yet, but this does sound a little restrictive:

Sledgehammer70 was quick to note that EA isn’t leaving players high and dry, but will instead be instituting a skill-based matchmaking system that will automatically pair players with other gamers around the world who are at a similar skill level, similar to the way Call of Duty games pair players.

Unfortunately, this new skill-based system may hamper gamers’ ability to play with their friends. This is especially true considering EA is scrapping the squad system for a simpler buddy system that links two people together within the game. We’ll note that EA has yet to provide any concrete details on how the matchmaking system will work within Star Wars Battlefront, so there may yet be ways for gamers to find and play with friends, and create custom matches.

I saw a few videos of a bunch of people playing with each other during the beta. Don't know how they did that, but it seems that it is possible to ensure you are set on a server with all your friends.

I played the BF4 free 10 hour trial thing a few months ago and really liked that. I was rubbish, but I still had fun. I had my eye on Battlefront because it looked a bit more casual (there's none of that crazy levelling system going on) than the mainline Battlefield games, but the lack of a server browser means that buying this locally just isn't a good idea. Playing a FPS on European or American servers isn't fun, and the hassle of finding people on forums, adding them to a group and organising everything like that every time I want to play just isn't for me.

I don't know why they couldn't just keep the server browser from BF4 and Hardline. Even internationally, this game is going to suffer a few months down the line because of the lack of a server browser, or ways to host your own servers. Additional modes like a one hit, one kill would have been nice too.

Okay, found an answer to my earlier question re PC preload. It seems that Origin has started opening preload access in some regions from today, but only for those who purchased directly from Origin. My key is from Greenman who confirmed on their FB and forum that they would not be issuing keys until release day sadly.

Also, the recent trend of physical game copies being nothing more than a box with a download code seems to be here to stay:

Sigh, another one. Add it to Fallout 4 and MGSV. It's such a waste of plastic, just print a piece of paper and sell those if you aren't going to include disks with the majority of the content on them.

So, the rest of the world is getting the game tomorrow, and we here have to wait until Friday to start playing. Only a week to go though, which isn't too bad.

Some outlets have already started posting their Review In Progress articles, and the general feeling at the moment seems to be a resounding "meh". Seems that the game has some spectacular scenes and moment, moments that you will not experience in any other game, but there seems to be a short lifespan connected to the game as well. We'll have to wait and see how it turns out.

This "thin on content" issue is what has bugged me about this game from the beginning. Against my better judgement and due to my ridiculous Star Wars geekness, I pre-ordered it and am sure I'll get value out of it. The weekend details of the Season Pass content, all of which imho should be in the base game from Day 1, priced at $50, irritates the heck out of me. $110 to get (eventually) a complete (but still multi-player only) game? I think not.

It comes with four expansion packs along with two-week early access to each content drop. The Shoot First emote is also included.

EA said the first expansion pack will be released in early 2016, and more details on the Season Pass will be made available “in the coming weeks.”

Here’s what you get for $49.99/£39.99:

Over 20 new pieces of galactic tech including weapons, vehicles, and Star Cards for both Rebels and Imperials
Four more heroes and villains for you to fight as or against
16 additional multiplayer maps featuring new locations
Four exciting new game modes
Two-week early access to each expansion pack
Exclusive “Shoot First” emote

Yeah got to agree. The biggest complaint so far I've read and seen for SWB is the lack of content. It was my biggest fear for the game during the beta as well. Unfortunately my blindingly fanboyism of the Star Wars franchise made me already invest into the Season Pass for the game.

Digital Foundry has done a framerate test of the retail version of Battlefront and it is a locked 60 fps on ps4.It is a shockingly good looking game.

To be fair to EA/Origin, I checked out the Season Pass on the local ZA store and it's available there for just under R500. That equates to around $35 which is a damn sight more reasonable than the $50 they're asking for it overseas. Even cheaper than getting it off Greenman with a 20% discount code.

Still going to give the base game a couple of hours before committing to it though.
