the graphics are really bad :/

I wish I could say that I don't agree.
I wish I could come up with something like "It's only in Alpha! Give them time!".

Sadly I cannot. The last time I let my mind slip that route, it washed out entirely. (FFXIV anyone?)

Yeah, the graphics look really 2009 ish! Great if all you ever have played is WoW, it is a massive upgrade in artistic level from that. Still, for the rest of us who have played other MMOs as the genre has moved to 2011, it is really outdated. Compare it to Rift, heck even compare it to Tabula Rasa (RIP).

Anyways, even with all the naysaying, everyone and his half intelligent genetically engineered dog is going to be playing SWTOR. So we can all make our value judgements then, when the end of the free month looms on the calendar.

I just had to share, a new E3 release.. A raid.. The eternity vault... It looks so awesome omg.. can't wait

OK! Now THAT was worth it!
THATS what I've been waiting for! WHOOH!

Seriously, now I can say I expect something from this game again.

And another trailer on raiding. This does not bode well for my expectations, yet another MMO with an "endgame" that requires grinding for gear to jump through the next hoop after yet another purple carrot. I will one month this MMO if there is not any other alternative advancement with very little grind for end level characters.

End-game content shouldn't be "easy" to acquire otherwise what's the point?

No-one likes to grind (except possibly for disturbed individuals) but no-one wants to have something every Tom, Dick and Harry has either.

The idea of health bars in a game involving lightsabers doesn't make sense.

I'll say it again ... KOTOR 1 & 2 were my two favourite games of all time, but the best lightsaber combat has to be from Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, where fights can last for minutes or seconds depending on whether or not your opponent dodged or you got a lucky shot off.

Which is EXACTLY why I am begging MMO developers come up with an "endgame" alternative.
Is endgame all about looking better than everyone else, having better gear than everyone else?
Is end game all about getting that dangling carrot that gives you Jump +1 which you need to catch the next carrot hanging a little higher? Is endgame all about "experiencing the content" over and over and over again for that random drop you need?
Is "endgame" all about signing up for an event with 20 other people that is going to suck your evening dry for 4-6 hours?
Is "endgame" all about racing against a DPS meter and being judged about how well you time pressing buttons x, y and z in the right sequence which is called a "rotation"?
Is "endgame" all about dancing around a boss DJ dance floor, everyone You-Tube choreographed?

From the looks of things, yes, it looks to be exactly that in SWTOR. Yawn, done it all before, seems that this "new" blockbuster is going to do it all again. Yeay.
Sure it will be fun levelling through the game, experiencing that content, just like it was in WoW, Rift etc. But again... it seems the only retention past the first month or two will be this "endgame" treadmill. Bleh. So much for being creative and evolving the genre.

Besides, as Voicy mentioned, hitting a "mob" over and over and over again, whittling down its "health bar" with a lightsaber makes me laugh. Unless you spin it that EVERY non jedi in all of the movies, including the animated Clone Wars were all level 1 and all the Jedis were level 100, it is a big ask to stomach using a lightsaber like a spoon to slowly chip away at a "Boss'" health.

Apologies for the acid in my post but I am just REALLY getting tired of MMOs following the same route over and over again.

Well. what end-game content would you suggest?

The way I see it end-game content will still have engaging stories so it won't be JUST about grinding items. That's enough for me (story), but we can only wait and see.

Yeah, that is what I am hoping for too. Some MMOs like LOTRO has a system that allows you to do a set of detailed quests at end game, which for some parts needs a group and not in others. The rewards are great items, both in look and in power. To have a story driven character advancement system at the level cap is the ideal, but it takes a LOT more developer hours to put that together than a raid dungeon.

I can only hope that there will be an alternative to a raid-grind treadmill in SWTOR.
