StarCraft II SA pricing

I really don't see the problem with the price being as it is. It will be polished and has good support.

I just can't stand people moaning if the game is abit more expansive. If it makes you happy and delights you then were is the prob. I mean drugs are more expensive but you don't see druggies complaining:p

because they are too high to moan :D

Ill get it for R450, but anything higher than that, the game will need great reviews in order for me to fork the money out.

At that price with no LAN(read no Dedicated server for COD mw2) i will not get it. I was burned once by Activision not again soz

I doubt its got anything to do with the actual price. Most PC gamers can find R499 for a game these days. It has to do with the principle of the whole thing. Activision acquired a fucking goldmine and they know it. So instead of keeping with the Jones' they up their price and know they will get it.

The major issue it has in the long run, is that other games will also follow the same trend, and before you know it, all games are R450-R600 not just Console games.

And yes, I know im one of those idiots that support their corrupt ways, cause I buy all the games I want, and if they have a collectors I will buy that as well...cause im a fucking sucker.

Remember the IT industry has a strange relationship with inflation. You will pay the same amount for a top of the line PC today, as you would 5-10 years ago (if not less). I dont know inflation half as well as I should. But cant simply go blaming price increases on inflation. Why is WIN7 the same price as what Win95 was? Win7 = http://www.microsoft.com/windows/buy/default.aspx ... Win95 = http://blog.seattlepi.com/microsoft/library/win95.html

I agree

This is extortion.
Just because it is a highly anticipated game they can just load the price and you will get people that will buy the game just because it is SC (no matter the cost)... Exactly the same happened with MW2.
So just becqause the people want to play it they will fork out up to R1k for a few hours (hopefully) worth of entertainment and Bliz will be laughing to the bank all the way.

But i didnt support MW2, and i wont support SC2 with this line of thinking - also with all the issues around the game (no lan, etc.)

Besides, this is for only ONE (1) campaign. So of course they will load the price for the other 2 campaigns as well, costing you more than R1k at the end.

so, pick a finger Bliz - wait, here take this one! .|..

Was going to reply till I saw this:

Yeah, because, like, when Starcraft came out in 1998, it was R300. SO FUCK THEM. FUCK THEM FOR RAISING THE PRICE OF GAMES FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 12 YEARS. FUCK THEM.

SHAMELESS PROFITEERING. FUCK THEM.

:D

BUT, if like MW2 the campaign is a measly 3 hours long for a R400-R500 game, and they expect to sell 'value-add' in the form of "endless replayability via multiplayer" then its a whole different story and they can go screw themselves.

Actually, I only got MW2 for the online multiplayer. Over 100 hours logged so far, and that's just a drop in the bucket compared to others here.

SC2 I'll get for the single player. And I'm willing to pay as much as R450 for it.

Dude epic post is epic

Well, lets wait and see.

I'm quite confident that there is going to be ample single player content with high replayability to ease the pain of a higher price, even if your not (for some reason beyond me =) ) interested in the multiplayer portion which will have unlimited replayability, especially with player created content.

Okay so let me get this straight? You are complaining because PC Game prices in South Africa are now actually finally starting to come inline with the rest of the world? A PC game in the States is maybe 10 to 15 dollars less then it's console brother. With the price of R450 or so that makes the PC version around about R200 or more less then the console game, and you are still complaining. It's been a long time coming, we were ripped off 12-13 years ago but we are now finally falling in line with the rest of the world.

What we pay in comparison to the US has very little to do with this.

But if your gonna compare apples with apples. bring up the prices :

Gamestop. com

BFBC2 (PC) = $49.99 (49.99 x 7.4 = R370)
BFBC2 (Xbox360) = $59.99 (59.99 x 7.4 = R445)

BTGames Note, this is online pricing, its cheaper than the actual ingame price.

BFBC2 (PC) = R325
BFBC2 (Xbox360) = R569

So your right, we are paying about R20-50 less per PC game right now. But we are also paying R120-150 more on the Console games, so our Distributors makes up the difference. Fine by me.

But it still doesnt explain why the whole world, including the US pays more for Activision titles. (Gamestop price on MW2 = $59.99 for PC)

Also, what is up with this incessant kakking out of people who actually question the pricing of items? It's called being a consumer. If people didnt, you would be paying 3-"a million times" more for absolutely everything you buy.

If Activision/Blizzard says :"We have 1.5 more people onboard, than any other gaming company, and we only sell the same amount as them and thus have to cover our overheads." Fine by me. But dont just jack up the rates and expect the consumer to lap it up....like a scarily amount of people on these forums are doing right now.

Buy the game, enjoy the game....but also question why things happen, your not sheep.

This has nothing much to do with inflation, and everything to do with the price of technology. Twenty years ago, computing was a niche industry. Now it's a household industry, and production trends reflect this. Where you have something produced on a massive scale, you have cheaper prices. When my dad bought our first PC in 1985 or 1985, it cost R20 000. :P

It's worth bearing in mind, of course, that prices (including the price of Win95) used to be extortionately expensive.

I used the IT industry simply as an example to prove that blindly claiming inflation has always been ignored is stupid. There are very rich people behind these companies, that would not be where they are if they missed on something as simple as inflation. But point taken and accepted Azimuth.
