Telkom ADSL speed upgrade details

Are they doing hardware upgrades though? My line in Newlands/Claremont has too much noise to support 4Mb/s. It made my line horribly unstable.

Okay.....so.....who among you is thinking of porting over/back to Telkom Internet?

Never again. I was with them when I first got my ADSL line and it was more trouble than it's worth. I've heard that things have improved a lot since those days, but I'm pretty happy where I am right now (Afrihost).
And you do realize that isn't just Telkom customers being upgraded, right?

im using telkom internet and over the past few months their service has definately improved in my book

I'm also on Telkom Uncapped and since June (when I got it) I have not had a single problem with them. They even gave me 25% off of my account for no apparent reason other than I called them and were friendly. No jokes, I called them about my relocation, and they asked me whether I wanted 25% discount.

How are you finding them in comparison to your previous ISP, and what option are you on?
I'm quite impressed with them, currently on a 4mb uncapped account. They're much better than the Openweb account I had before this.

According to the telkom ADSL checker my line has been upgraded.

ADSL Availability
Service Available
Maximum speed available in your area 4 Mbps
Your Current Service speed 10 Mbps

This has me a bit excited because 10 Mbps have not been available in our area in the past.
However, it could just mean that Telkom is showing all existing 4 Mbps lines as 10 Mbps now (explaining the availability showing 4 Mbps max). I tried to do a line test through Afrihost clientzone but it keeps on failing which could point to something happening at home. I'll post my findings later once I'm home and able to check my router.

Telkom will be upgrading its ADSL line speeds - here are the details

The whole speed upgrade is a non event for me if they don't give our exchange some well needed TLC. It is buggy as heck and I have to phone them periodically to come and take a look at it. They say it is fixed and that there was something wrong with it and then a month later the same happens. It could just be that the area is overloading it.

But the speed increase is welcome nonetheless.

The lines are being upgraded, not necessarily the base packages for other ISPs. Some have already announced they'll make the jump. MWEB, for example, hasn't so far. It also considers its 1Mbps offering to currently be a premium product with less shaping, at least according to the website, although it definitely doesnt feel like that to me...

Hahaha... I am getting 15k right now with 50 torrent downloading... on a 1 meg line. they shape the hell out of the 1 meg accounts as well.

Don't even want to see how they are going to shape you on the shaped line then....

Mine is also showing 10 megs all of a sudden yet my router says 4 megs max

Sad to report that it is the same here. We have always known that Telkom's adsl checker is not the most reliable tool, but I must admit to being a bit disappointed. Getting 10Mbps would have been great. But there is still a week to go, so here's holding thumbs.

I moved down to Telkom 2 meg uncapped a while ago , (side not the service is great now better value for money than Mweb who I was with)

so with this does it mean I will be bumped up to a 4 meg line and a 4 meg uncapped option or do I have to do the latter portion manually .

If the uncapped is with Telkom then yes it should be.

Quite disappointing I hope so
