The Crew

Anyone getting The Crew and looking to teamup with someone? Let me know, sadly all my friends got this on console instead.

I'm contemplating getting it for PC. If I do, it will only be later this month, when I can afford it. Still not sure.

Drop some initial impressions here please. My biggest concern is car count, if someone can just let me know what its looking like.

Honestly The Crew looks uninspired and has "Ubigame" pushed into so much of it's gameplay mechanics.

I agree to an extent.

Did you try the beta?

The sheer size of the game is enough reason for me to buy it, just being able to cruise around and explore the environment. The sheer amount of things to do is just astounding. The story is very meh and unspiring, but that's not why I would be getting it.

I feel FC4 would be a better choice as a Christmas gift, than The Crew.

Impulsively, I would go for The Crew due to its sheer size and vehicle customisation. I do worry amount the amount of cars; having only 10 or so would feel old after a while. The game presents itself as an impressive looker (IMO) and it does look like it will be a lot of fun to play, however, the input lag (of what I've heard) doesn't sit well with me; pushing an analog stick either right or left and half a second later I get a response - I will get annoyed by that pretty damn quickly.

If these issues can be sorted, I can't see why I won't want to spend money on this game. As it stands though... I'm not so sure.

I did play the beta and more than anything the car handling put me off due to how unresponsive it was... :/

I'm not normally impressed by size and amount of fluff in games anymore. I like a game to have focus and a solid creative vision and I'm just not seeing it here, but that's my opinion.

Yeah me and a buddy spent hours just driving around, cruising and initiating some random long road races.
Going to some well known racetracks, Pikes Peak and soema the friggen Grand Canyon. I just wanna explore more.
But as Hagan mentioned, if there is only a few cars it'll get meh soon, which is what I don't want, so i will be buying the game immediately if I can find out more about the available cars(coz it looks bleak on the website, all I want is a damn Evo and they don't even show that)

I was thinking the same thing. Thanks for the list though; at least they're a lot more than only 10 rides in this game... :)

Someone can create a thread within General Gaming and ask a mod or admin to merge this one with that.

Thanks for the link. The Aventador is still my favourite exotic supercar; owing and modding it would be so damn awesome! ;)

See, this is what I'm loving about this game. The ability to mod/alter all vehicles to what ever spec you like. Not being confined to only a "tuner" look/feel. Hell, you want a Koenegesesisig that can race on dirt you got it. Or a Shelby 500 that is a good tuner, why not!

I'll be honest, Beo - if the handle of the car can be more responsive, it'll buy this game. I do not have first-hand experience, mind you, simply going on what I've been told. I love racing games and this is no exception; hell, I hated Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) , but I couldn't stop playing the game (mainly because it looked so good).

Some worthwhile info, for you PC players.

If you're on PC go into options and change from 30 FPS to 60 FPS.
Handling is good once you get out of the tutorial cars.
No invisible walls.
Ubisoft seems to have a rule about their open world games. A location that shows all surrounding events, a bunch of easy to obtain collectibles that give you free money/XP, and RPG elements. This game has all of those. Parts you get from skill missions have, for some bizarre reason, a random effect applied to them when you win it. This means you can win a fuel injector that magically makes your breaking better.
Skill events litter the map. As far as I can tell you can keep getting XP and money from them, so you can grind the same one over and over, just like an RPG.
Lots of ambient stuff going on. People, trains, wildlife, aircraft. There's even a fighter jet being refueled. For some reason aircraft flying around in racing games are always cool to me.
As far as I can tell buildings do not have a draw distance limit. Instead of having the buildings LOD pop-in and out they have the buildings go fuzzy when you're far away, and unfuzz as you can get close. Terrain is used to block things very far away.
There's this weird "noise" that is pervasive throughout the UI. Lines generated for the UI wobble around and sometimes glitch about, these are clearly art choices. It's not annoying, but is odd. It fits in with the fuzzy look of things far away though.
Like Test Drive Unlimited (developers from that game worked on this game) you can fast travel anywhere, however you don't have to drive up and down every street to unlock fast travel which is how it worked in TDU. As you drive around a large square around you uncovers. You can fast travel to any drivable point on the map, even if it's nowhere near a road.
Loading is super fast, most I noticed was a few seconds of loading.
There's a bug where other cars do not move, they just sit on the road. This does not happen in race events though.
If you are going really fast and go into cockpit view the steering wheel will be shaking, your character is keeping your car straight.
Test Drive Unlimited had a race that went around the entire island, hopefully we'll get one going around the US.
The bridge at the Hoover dam is wrong. It has supports going into the water. Fix it Ubisoft!
There are short roads leading into Mexico that go into tin shacks.

I agree completely :)
