The Decline of Strategy Gaming

From what I heard the game was completely broken with terrible AI on release day, haven't heard of any patches that came out that fixed the major issues that plagued it. So unless its now decent, I'm still waiting for it to be fixed, but yeah, when I heard about it I was pretty excited :)

There have been significant patches already, but watch some videos and find it out for yourself. From what I've seen the AI is no worse than R6's AI.

I see that groupees has the theatre of war and men of war RTS games on sale- as well as a couple other titles- anyone here tried these?

The video I watched was the PSA warning people not to play the game! AI looked absolutely horrendous :P

But maybe I should just stop being cheap and dig into next month's budget a little early and give it a look.

It's only $15, you can probably get 20% off on GMG as well...

I don't know how many of you make use of GOG.com, but they have an EA weekend promo with quite a few old gems in. It's still running for 19 hours.

I bought Alpha Centauri and the Starflight pack. Alpha Centauri is probably the best Civ-like game available, even better than Civ 5. It's very dated and thus very difficult to learn the ropes, but well worth the effort. Not many games allow you to melt the polar ice caps in order to flood your opponents' coastal towns.

Starflight is a little bit easier to learn, but technologically it's far behind, having released somewhere in the 80s. The closest modern game to it would have to be Mass Effect. There's a giant universe to explore with a bunch of races each with their own political agendas and alignments and missions. If you can look past the dated graphics, there's a lot of fun to be had.

Other good strategy games up for sale would be the two Dungeon Keeper games, Theme Hospital, Syndicate and Populous.

Ubisoft made R.U.S.E. a few years ago. Don't know if anyone tried that. That was supposed to be an evolution on strategy gaming. I don't think it was very successful.

Not to mention a free copy of The witcher with every purchase

What problems were there with the game? I was considering buying it on Steam but would love to hear a first hand account if you know someone who has played it?

There is only one syndicate in my mind, and that was made by Bullfrog...as ALL amazing games were...

Its such a pity EA went on to kill the company. They had some great games before the takeover: Theme Par& Hospital, Populous, Dungeon Keeper, and Syndicate. The original developers did go on to make a great game (Black & White) before they got stuck in the Fable world.

We not even going to talk about Westwood Studio either.

Man do I hate EA!!!

Black & White...maybe I should hunt down the disc lying around and give it another play! Man, that game was awesome! Definitely had soul and character to it.

Black & White 2 added some nice features (armies and city building was SO much better), but lost its charm along the way. I didnt feel like a God in it :(
