The Elder Scrolls Online Beta

As someone who has done this at more than a few MMO launches, let me impart some polished up old advice: don't.
After being disappointed at EVERY new MMO release during the first week, sitting around, waiting for queues, waiting for last second patches, waiting in line to kill the first mob you need in the starting area...

You get the idea. I would say, take leave from the 3rd day on or so to be safer.

Or maybe take leave, spend the first day or 2 with your wife, then play ;-P

5 Days of early access mate....that is when I will be on leave playing the game...Then I will skip a week for all those nasty wait times in the queue...and play something else....

So IMHO, problem solved :)

Good luck with that dude, early access tends to have just as many issue. :D

Yea the problem is everyone who pre-ordered the game gets the 5 days early access, so hopefully theres no queue times in teh early access

I consider my judgement fairly sound as far as MMOs go and unfortunately, at this particular stage of the launch, I'm with OmegaFenix, Wyvern and Lycanthrope. It has nothing to do with subs and everything to do with ambience, mechanics and overall polish.

DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM the online beta questionnaire is fking long.

Yeah, but I made sure to answer everything I did in the game (no PvP obviously). I wan't them to improve the aspects I found lacking, so I can get even more enjoyment out of it.

Yeah I made clear that the grouping sucked bad and the improvements they needed.

I heard that if you quest with people the quest objectives are not completed together. So if you to flip a switch, you have to wait and then your buddy has to do it when it respawns.

That is so backward, its not even funny. Definately smacks of a single player game design.

What annoyed me the most was that the immersion is completely broken.

For example when you have to go steal a letter or something from an NPC's house, you "break in" only to find fifty other people doing the exact same thing.

Another example is entering a "dream" world where you're seeing a vision of the past and, again, fifty people are running around you in the vision doing the same thing.

Times like that a private instance would be infinitely preferable.

Single-player game intentions = good. Not properly implementing those intentions in a way that still make sense in an MMO = very, very bad.

I need immersion in a game or I don't care any more. The story isn't bad though--I'd love to play through it more... I just can't get "into" it when an otherwise believable world becomes a joke with a bunch of people running and jumping around in those moments where you feel like only you should be experiencing it.

The Elder Scrolls Online is currently in closed beta... they're stress testing, but there is still an NDA in place, so I can't really talk about whether I'm in it, or what I think of it.

Instead, let me tell you about these chocolate chip cookies I tried. I've had chocolate chip cookies before, and I liked them well enough... but I didn't think this particular recipe was any good. They certainly looked like chocolate chip cookies, but they didn't really taste a whole lot like chocolate chip cookies. Something about them was just... off.

I don't know, maybe if I absolutely, head-over-heel loved chocolate chip cookies, I would have liked this recipe better. Maybe I'm just not a big enough fan of chocolate chip cookies to begin for me to overlook the weird taste of this recipe. Overall I guess it just felt like this recipe was trading entirely on the established chocolate chip cookie name, rather than trying to be delicious all on its own. And so ultimately these cookies bring nothing new to the table, and everything they do, other cookies already do better.

Now, to be fair, this particular recipe is pretty new... perhaps not even quite finished yet. So I did take that into account when tasting the cookies. However, ultimately, when you put certain ingredients together in a certain way, it's pretty clear the kind of cookie you're going to get, and nothing short of major alterations will change the resulting taste. There comes a point when the baker has clearly committed to a certain concoction, and a pinch of salt here or a couple of extra minutes in the oven won't help.

Of course, recipes can evolve and change over enough time, and perhaps eventually the baker will tweak and adjust the ingredients to create something special. And I'm sure there are a lot of people out there that will just gobble these cookies up regardless. I personally just think they're bland, and not worth the asking price.

LOL. So... when you dream is it instanced ? :p

Some things worked properly when group, others not. Switches tended to work when pressed in a group. Collecting things for some quests updated together and for others not.

1 Thing that was very irritating was that we needed to do the conversations separately for every quest.

Ergh, should have bought the Kalahari pre order yesterday, its gone up by R200 in one night. Dammit. Now the game is hovering around the impossible to justify buying mark.

Oh well.

Oh well.

Now the question remains... are they going to pull a BT games on those who already pre-ordered:

I would not trust kalahari with pre-oders any more after few times I used them and they screwed it up.

Yes I saw that price a few days back, but lets think logically about it. According to kalahari it must be 30.4748 USD, which online shop is offering it for 30.4748 USD? I then looked at AWX and BT games (Takealot doesn't list it), none of these has pricing on them, but yet kalahari has it for 30.4748 USD.

I would not be surprised if they go A) Oh shit! price increased or B) Sorry we canceled your pre-order (like with fallout vegas). This is why I have not linked or used them...

So I had a Beta invite.
Didn't use it.

Sad to say but I won't be playing ESO until it goes F2P or buy to play. Subscription based games just don't get played by myself anymore.
For the rest of you do the sub thing, hope its worth it, but I for one don't pay for the privilege of playing a game I already bought.
