The Elder Scrolls Online

Besides, if there is one thing ESO does NOT do well is levelling with other people. It is a 90% solo game and designed that way it seems.

I have to agree with this. I've been playing with friends and it's fine, but there are small things that need to be fixed. Namely quest objectives should be shared, you should phase to the same instance as your friends automatically etc.

Actually their phasing tech is weird as hell and it's best if you stay in sync quest wise with the people you play with. Since phasing is used so heavily.

Their client downloader is very weird. It seems to download the unpatched game, then download patches. That's very counter-intuitive, because after a massive 22gb download I now have to download another 5GB.

I wish it was more like GW2, where it downloads the latest client right off the bat.

Yea the standard leveling so far is pretty much solo centric, i have not seen ANY "group quests" (as in where it would say 2-man/3-man etc) yet . There are a few open world bosses and the dungeons which require a group but is also kind of a separate thing to do (it does not block your progress directly) like in most MMOs . There is also Cyrodill which is a huge open PvP zone with variety of content (quests included) which you can dip into at any time if you feel you need more "cooperative" game play.

Also the "adventure zones" which i think is lvl 50+ zones ? Is specifically group content, an entire zone which you can't solo. I assume they are forced to do it like this to ensure everyone in the group is "phased" the same.

Either way, i like their phasing stuff, they are really pushing some limits with it (resulting in a TON of bugs) . So in a way i prefer the "drawback" of a difficult grouping experience in favor of the world literally changing around you , based on your decisions. I already figured out how they are doing it, you will notice how you always end up "zoning" into a house/cave/temple to complete a quest and when you exit, voila you zone back into a "phased" version of the zone based on what you did .

Simple example, last night i did some quest chain in a haunted village overrun with skeletons, at the end i had a choice to eliminate the skeletons but leave the ghosts there to "suffer" or save the ghosts but leave the skeletons to attack everyone. Based on your choice the village will "phase" into become a peaceful or hostile area. I thought that is pretty cool, as this is an area in the open world that is now changed permanently based on what you did in the quest.

The catch is of course, now your group buddy who is choosing different will disappear from your instance, i'm not even sure how it works from there on (can two players who made different choices ever play together in an area like this?) .

The starter islands (if you choose to do them) , which you "save", also becomes totally different areas once you complete the main quest line. I was grouped with someone who was going to the islands for the first time (when i already finished them) and we could not get into the same instance.

Yeah I'm playing with a couple of my friends and even if you make different choices you still occupy the same area as long as they completed that quest. You'll just see different things. I also like the heavy use of phasing, they just need to tighten the grouping up a bit more.

Only quests which have been issues in my group has been the guild quests and the main quests. Seems to be forced to solo those. The other quests we have just made sure to pick the same options. Easy to do when using mumble :)

So i was getting so proud about my "original" 2h-melee sorcerer with 2 pets out and then i entered the first dungeon with a group and suddenly there are 4 sorcs, all melee , no one could heal, no one could tank :-(. We could get through the dungeon for the most part, but eventually could not finish the final boss, we all tried to play some quasi-healer-swoppery thing, but no one was really specced for it.

So now i feel the need to make a different build haha, dammit.

How did you end up in a group with no healers? Last night I did all the level 12 dungeons (as a healer) with a pre-made group and it was quite fun for the most part, I'm quite looking forward to seeing what the higher level dungeons will bring to the table.

Oh i didn't go via the dungeon-group-maker system. I literally pitched up at the entrance of the dungeon (in the open zone) and there were like 10 other players standing there and well, we just grouped up. One of the sorcs did mark himself as a healer, but just like the rest of the group, any of us -can- heal with a resto staff and 2 points used to unlock the first 2 healing spells...but doesn't mean you can keep a team of "glass cannons" up though.

LoL I had a similar issue used the group finder got into a group only to find that the nightshade said he was gonna tank. We couldn't get past the 1st mob and we were wiping...

I got into a decent group but I see the common issue is for ppl to scatter so healing everyone becomes a challenge... And don't get me started on the chest diving, I actually don't even try go for them. Im happy completing the quest and getting the loot from that.

Ppl need to kombiya next to the frikken tank and then I happily AOE heal

People in public dungeons are dicks. You help them out when they're in trouble, then when you accidentally pull 4 mobs they just run right past you and leave you to die. Then later you hear them asking for help with the dungeon in zone chat.

Anyway, what is the faction everyone is playing or is there no official MyGaming guild/faction?

It's a bit weird, apart from the handful of SA guys on a few forums liek this one. There seems to be very little local interest in the game. At least that's what it feels like to me.

Agree, we only have like 12 SA players in our guild, hard to get more joining.

But myself and GF is enjoying this game alot so far, the GFX looks amazing and questing is so fun.

Yeah I've joined two international guilds and one local one, but in general guild chat is quite quiet. I suppose TS is becoming more prominent which I understand, but am a little disappointed because I'm perpetually in skype with my two friends who are playing with.

My mates and I are playing on Ebonheart atm

I use TS myself.. but probably just me but i can't speak over TS and mmo games at the same time, unless it's doing a dungeon or a raid, i like concentrating on the game without too much voice chat going on, i still love to just type ingame though.

What im loving atm is the game doesn't feel to full, areas are not over crowded which is a big plus in my book.

Also I finally decided to start an Auciton Guild, really wanted to see if I can make it work and grow and currently got 38 members which is really cool! Some of the local chaps have joined as well in support and if anyone else wants to join let me know.

Oh and PvP is absolutely mental, its the best PvP experience iv had in a long time and the battles intense. Being a healer paints a rather large target on u and watching myself melt in seconds is quite funny.

Regarding the PvP, had alot of fun this weekend too, in Cyrodill. I don't think people realise how much content there is in that zone. Inbetween all the forts, farms, mines, castles there are villages, caves, temples that serves as quest hubs. These spots are neutral (so a faction can't ever own it, the ownership of the forts around it dictates what players you will find there though) but can be filled with aggro mobs and such.

I've made alot of xp just doing these quests and you also have 2 new skill trees to go into ("Alliance War Skills") . The only catch is, you will always run the risk of running into the opposing faction who is doing the same quests are yourself...so a public dungeon can be quite a nervous place to be in.

Most amusing moment this weekend, i went back to a village to hand in my quests, but while i was out, our forts around the village was captured by the enemy and thus there was an enemy presence in the village too. So i zone into the town hall and there are like 20 enemy players standing in front of the quest giver....i actually made it to the quest giver and handed in before i was noticed and well, ganked :).

Either way, i think it's an interesting dynamic, you can easily see where it is relatively safe to quest . I've been successful very deep behind enemy lines too, as the players tend to be on "frontlines" rather than in a village of a remote area that is deep into their own territory.

Did my first respec today, only cost me 7k gold at level 33. I wanted to get rid of all the points I spent experimenting with stamina based damage, sadly, none of them worked for me. Still the best and most efficient damage for me is magicka. Now I got 10 points with nowhere for them to go ;-P

I did respec on Friday, level 18. I made some choices that while they made sense at the lower levels weren't working so well anymore. Cost me around 3k, quite a dent in the pursuit of saving up for the 42k horse. :(
