The firearms thread

yeah, but they are pretty darned pricey. and i wonder if the parcel will get hassled at customs. anybody here import firearm accessories ?

Tacshac have Meprolite night sights in stock - think I remember seeing some for Glocks, whilst I was there.

And yeah, would definitely put on if my Sig hadn't come with. Make a biiiig difference in low-light/no-light conditions.

What would you recommend for a lady? Small handgun wise?

FN 5-7. Uses 5.7x28mm, is ambidextrous, super light, almost no recoil, has a bottom rail and a hefty mag. It's been available since 2004 to the public, I've been using it for years - It's brilliant.

I still believe she should carry whatever you do. Why have her at a disadvantage in a GF? Also, it's basically saying you on't trust her enough to carry a Glock 19 or the like.

This is a general statement. Not implying you guys do. ;)

Girls are more dainty, have less forearm and hand strength - makes sense to start them off small. You've shot a pistol, you should understand.

Never going to find that in SA. FN is like a hard working platinum miner in South Africa. Non existent :D

SA has just stopped bringing in guns besides the Glocks, CZ's, Some Sig's, and the like. FN is just so hard to find.

This. I re-iterate, go and read that thread on Gunsite. Very solid advice, given by an extremely experienced shooter.

Where do you find ammo for the 5-7, let alone parts?

Heck, my best mate has an H&K P30, and he can't find parts for his gun for love nor money.

Have a friend in Moz who get's me my cleaning kits and I've even procured a 10 Round extender for my mag, MkII CTL (Green) and new threaded barrel. - It's about who you know. TIA.

Can't agree with you on this point. They have a license due to their capability of shooting a firearm. Meaning they are fully capable of handling the caliber.

One should have ample range time before carrying firearm in order to be proficient. My thoughts.

ok i don't own any fire arms but i have a pallet gun that looks like a machine gun has a top slot in magazine that takes about 20 pellets but somehow the mag got split and one piece is now stuck in the gun i'll post a pic of it tomorrow to give u an idea but i want help if anyone can tell me where i can take it to be repaired or even looked at to see if it will be worth it to fix or just buy a new one all together

Yeah I'll check it all out. My wife and I enjoy shooting at the range but I'd like her to be quite comfortable with weapons of all sorts to the point where she might like having her own gun.

The main thing I dont think she'd want is a large gun which is difficult to conceal.

Again i ask does nobody know somebody who helps with the licensing and things ?

There are a lot of guys that do it for a fee dude. Just google licensing. They write up your motivation, tell you what to sign. what to take photos of, yada yada.

Or are you talking about competency?

I'm presuming he means the full package thing?

There are quite a few clubs who will take you through the full process, competency and licensing. Where are you based Insanity?

Seen a place include a Glock in the price. Came to something like R12 000. Was cheaper doing everything separate. But I am sure there are a few more that are in a decent price range.

All that link really says is that firearm choice is very personal. Which is the point. You said the wife "should carry whatever you do", but what happens if the wife doesn't like shooting (or isn't strong enough to shoot) a .40, or a G19, or whatever it is? The gun has to be comfortable for the person, if it's not they're unlikely to want to practice with it and become proficient in it's use.

The new P320. I want, I want one so badly!

Mmmmmmmm. Shiny!
