The Golf Shot Thread

Just a heads up that the SuperBru thingy for the PGA this weekend is up for your selections.

Less than 24 hours to the last major of the year and Tiger is in the hunt again. Should be a great 4 days.

I'm off to play my first round of golf in months tomorrow. Looking forward to it. Guess I'll be heck of a rusty, but it's better than being in the office. I need 3 more rounds to get my first handicap in years. Planning a round with my brother in law maybe next weekend, so then it'll be just one more. :)

Where will you be playing? With it being winter your ball will roll a lot more ;)

Played Rocklands, Country Club Johannesburg (Woodmead).

First time on the course. Quite long course, but as you say, with it being winter, the ball definitely traveled slightly further.

The rough was a wee bit forgiving provided you go too far off the fairway. Greens and bunkers were in good condition. Greens were extremely quick. Quite a few holes that I really enjoyed, but wished I had known the layout before, as it would have made a bit of a difference to my course management.

I was there for a golf day and we were nicely looked after without it being too lavish.

The facilities are excellent and I would happily visit the club again.

The only struggle was the wind. It literally was moving the ball on the greens. It reminded me of playing golf at the Wild Coast CC. You really have to play the right lines to ensure you do not get blown out of play.

A wonderful outing all in all.

That would be great.

Day 3 & 4 picks for SuperBru required.

Doesn't look like this will another major win from Tiger, but who knows what he can accomplish.

I was quite excited to see that I was 2nd in the pool, then I saw that there are only 3 people in the leader board...This golfing Superbru is rather difficult, but I like it.

I didn't have time to register and forgot about it, is it too late to create a team/golfer?

Please don't let Duffner win, I'm not a big fan!

Sorry, but the cookie didn't quite crumble right for you :(

It was a stuning looking course though. Would dearly loved to play it.

It is definitely an unusual format, but it is lekker. I like the fact that in the four groups you get to choose from, after the cut, you could be left with extremely few choices. And this was the case in this weekend's tournament.

Ok awesome thanks, the links for the site are in this thread right?

Looking out for ya! :)

Dale Hayes on the PGA:

From the desk of Dale Hayes,

Well, there you have it. Four different players winning the majors in 2013 – Adam Scott; Justin Rose; Phil Mickelson, and Jason Dufner.

It was great to see Jason Dufner coming through with some superb golf (including a 7-under 63 in the second round) to lift the trophy after blowing his chances back in 2011, where he dropped four shots in four holes and then lost to Keegan Bradley in a play-off. Now if we could just do some work on that waggle – and coax out a smile!

I was sad to see Jim Furyk bogey the last two holes and once again missing out on his chance at another major title. I’ve always thought of him as a true gentleman, which was reinforced for me a couple of years ago when he was disqualified up at the Nedbank Golf Challenge but he chose to stay on and play the final round so that his fellow player would not be out there alone.

Rory McIlroy made a return to form. Even with a triple bogey on the 5th hole he made a terrific comeback to shoot level par and finished in the Top 10. You can imagine that Tiger Woods wouldn’t have been happy with his tie for 40th place – just as the South Africans will have to admit they had a dismal performance. The only highlight was the hole-in-one made by Tim Clark on the 11th hole yesterday – using a hybrid nogal! He was the only South African to make the cut and finished in a tie for 68th.

I don’t know about you but the tournament coverage when the US went to ad breaks was atrocious. The guy commentating during those breaks was clearly not a knowledgeable golfer. He made mistake after mistake and certainly put a dampener on what was otherwise an unbelievable event.

Last weekend I was playing mashie golf, and I got the ball on the green in one shot, and made par.
Just call me Tiger :D

Seriously though, I should really play more golf, the two or three times per year I play doesn't seem to be enough practice for me to get my handicap down. And I have a nice new bag and actual golf shoes now. I think my clubs are older than I am though, and that's saying something.
