Not quite right. Anime has as many different genres and targeted age groups as normal television does this side - so there's anime for kids (Dragonball Z falls in that category, although a lot of older folks enjoy it as well), as well as anime for teenagers, adults, anime targeted specifically at teenage boys (Naruto), and anime targeted specifically at girls (most of the series done by CLAMP).

If you can get yourself to see past the part where it's animated, you'll find more variety than you could ever dream existed :)
 
Yeah the range and genre of anime is really vast. So many options for different age groups.

One of the best things about Anime (series and movies) are their storylines. The actual animation is not of the best quality mainly because of time constraints (though few do have good animation) but the story line and the characters are great and you get so involved in that world you become part of it.
 
Speaking of movies... Ghibli movies have interesting stories usually. I enjoyed all of them, the latest being "From Up on Poppy Hill"
Other movies which should have mention are ones such as Sword of a Stranger, Summer Wars, The Girl Who Lept Through Time and A Letter to Momo, to name a few. There's this fantasy movie called Brave Story which was one of the better movies I have seen in a while.
 
I'm reading a manga now called Anorexia - Shikabane Hanako wa Kyoshokushou and i have to say that i am feeling kinda sick after reading the first 3 chapters.
 
Been watching alot of Kingdom recently. If you can get past the drawing style (2d+3d) it's actually quite good.

Also watched the first three eps of High School Life of Boys. It's ok, kind of expected more full metal panic-ish antics but ok nonetheless.

Need more Initial D!

Totally! Had a very good story and awesome characters as well. If you liked Black Lagoon, you will feel at home with this one minus all the blood and 80% of the killing of course.

Sadly the ending left a lot to be answered so who knows if we will see more manga/anime in the future.
