The official Witcher 3 thread

If CDPR didn't cater for the "shitty consoles" I would not have been able to play the game now. I'm very happy with how the game looks and runs on PS4 and I'm gonna be spending some serious time getting lost in this world.

Additionally, if they didn't cater for consoles, then we wouldn't have a game of this size or scope either. As much as I don't like the fact that the graphics were downgraded, I don't think blaming the consoles is really the way to go. The reality is that CDPR shouldn't have over-promised. They should have shown us what to expect. I realise that devs are ambitious, but I'm sure they would have known early on what they could and couldn't do. It's a shame that this "scandal" has marred the release of a great game. I'm sure we are all going to enjoy it in any case.

Indeed. PC sales aren't even going to make up 1/3 of the total sales. I've got friends with consoles who've never even heard of The Witcher, buying the game in drones. CDPR definitely has a history of over-ambition, and they seriously need some one high up to control that. All their games have been like that, and that's not good business management. Hopefully they keep things in check for Cyberpunk.

However, they could have included some crazy ultra high settings like they did for TW2. Ubersampling still brings a lot of machines to their knees, but it looks amazing too. The PC release feels like a afterthought here, considering most of the bugs are with the PC version. Not to mention their PR campaign regarding the downgrade has been dismal. They chose to hide and lie, and they've lost a lot of respect from me for doing that. They could have been honest, and I doubt that they would've lost a lot of PC sales if they were.

totally agree :) Although i'm playing on PC, and i don't really feel like its been downgraded. plus, i happen to own those "shitty consoles". and surely you guys can understand the position CDPR were in? you could not expect them to just develop for PC only and ignore the revenue streams from consoles? would you guys have been happier if they did this, and then went bust and we Cyperpunk did not get made ?

honestly, i think that there is WAAAAAAY too much emphasis put on GFX. everyone just needs to take a step back and enjoy the game for all the other awesome aspects it has going for it :)

I rather have them make it for pc and downgrade the console version ;)

When they started development the ps4 and xbone specs weren't out. They expected more then what either ms or sony delivered...

Mmmm can't do much about the lighting, they literally gutted it and changed it completely...not something that can be changed easily. Not with a patch at least.

there will probably be an enb mod out soon thats gonna change it a slight bit and hopefully some skyrim level mods to make it look prettier

The graphics downgrade doesn't really bother me. I think the game world/setting/theme looks absofuckingly gorgeous, though it would have looked better with the downgrade.

And I see walkthroughs are already coming out. I this from people who have completed it, or does does shit like this get out so quickly?

That's exactly my point. The DSfix for Dark Souls wasn't really a mod per se but more of a direct injection into Direct X iirc

I think I'll remove myself from this thread, you guys are missing the point.

Let me say this again, the Ps4 and XOne are rubbish, they are not next gen. They are barely able to play games at high enough settings and then they still drop below 30fps. Sony and Microsoft trolled you guys hard.

Also guys saying the graphics has no impact on the game ect, you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. The game is cartoony at best, the gorgeous dark smokey misty atmosphere that we saw in 2013/14 is gone as in nothing remains of it. The game is bright and over saturated, some of the textures on the trees looks like they slapped it together in paint and put in as an after thought.

There was absolutely no reason for them to not give us an amazing pc version but why should they? They got millions from Microsoft and Sony to make sure the game looked almost identical across all platforms and that's exactly what they did. They didn't make use of the power of today's gaming pc's, instead they lied about it to the very end.

I have little to no respect left for cdpr, they are sell outs.

I get that not everyone can afford a great gaming pc, but why the fuck give us the same as the console version? Why not at least put some effort in the same way that the developers of project cars put effort in for the console version.

This is exactly why they held back on the pc review codes. Not because of a so called miracle patch.

Personally dude, I think you may be missing the point

I'm not going to put too much of fight here, The consoles do not come close to high-end PC. They are not what most people (including CDPR evidently) expected from next gen consoles. I think saying they are rubbish is a bit strong, but I'll give you the fact that the consoles aren't up to scratch.

Also guys saying the graphics has no impact on the game ect, you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Yeah man, the game is downgraded from what we saw in 2013. I think that sucks too.

They didn't make use of the power of today's gaming pc's, instead they lied about it to the very end.

Here is where you are missing the point. It's obviously not economically feasible for a team of 200 people who are independently funded to push out a PC version with huge disparity to the console versions. They don't have the funds or the manpower to create three unique versions of the game. Rockstar did it with GTA V and they had a budget of $285 million dollars (plus sales) and a team probably 5 times that of CDPR. Also, their amazing PC version took one and a half years to release. Additionally, as mentioned above, the size and the scope of the game would not have been possible only developing for PC. So unfortunately it requires compromises. This is the reality of economics. Unless you are an oil baron, you can't just pull money out of the ground.

I have little to no respect left for cdpr, they are sell outs.

I've also lost a lot of respect for them because they weren't forthcoming with the reality of the downgrade and should have said something about it a long long time ago. However, they still gave us a DRM-free game that is of an extremely high quality for a smallish studio that is superb by all accounts.

I get that not everyone can afford a great gaming pc, but why the fuck give us the same as the console version? Why not at least put some effort in the same way that the developers of project cars put effort in for the console version.
The PC version is still better than the console version and again, their ability to provide a completely different PC version is dictated by the money and resources available to do so.

This is exactly why they held back on the pc review codes. Not because of a so called miracle patch.
Ja, it does seem that they held back the PC review code in an attempt to mitigate the outcry pre-release. I lost respect for them on that point too.

Off topic, Raru delayed the shipping of my case, so I'll only be getting it tomorrow. Sigh, got these new parts but I can't install them as they don't fit in my current case.

Took today off for nothing.

Running everything on ULTRA with HAIRWORKS enabled and getting a steady stream on 40-50 fps, with the occasional blip down to 30-35 but this seems to mostly happen in cutscenes/cinematics strangely enough.
Also had my first crash and can't seem to fathom why other than game related. My card is performing well and I also upgraded memory to 16gb, so doubt it's my hardware.

But damn, the hairworks makes it look amaze-balls. The beards especially I think are the best and most realistic looking.

*oh yes, and packs of wolves can be trouble.

I also started the game on what I believe would be hard difficulty.

Does anyone know what simulating a Witcher 2 save does? I said no.

It's the same thing they did in Dragon Age:Inquisition . You basically get the option to recreate the choices made in Witcher 2 without having to import a save game. I'm not sure if any of this really plays a significant role, it might add some flavor to a few conversations i suppose, but i doubt it will be a case of a NPC character is suddenly dead (or alive) in the game when it was not in the vanilla storyline.

I chose yes regardless, i don't really remember what i did in Witcher 2, but i do remember where i picked sides , and i'd kinda like the idea to set that straight (i.e having sided with certain groups in W2) . I haven't gotten to the part where they ask these questions, apparently it can be a few hours into the game.

that 970 rocks :) and hairworks for me is just astonishing! well worth the minor drop in frame rate :)

Oh for sure!

But realizing that this game still needs a lot of optimising, having a few props with pop-ins, textures, rendering, and the sometimes (I don't know why either) crash. Where the game just seems to hang and not respond.

Haha if minor is around 20 fps then sure. When I turned it on in the tavern my fps went from 60 to under 40fps. No thanks...

I very seldom see my fps drop below 45 maybe even 40. I have seen a drop to 30 (lowest) for a split second but it was only in cut scene or cinematic. DOn't know why, but that's when most of the drops happen.

Also I've notice some strange interlacing (may not be the right word). Where it looks like the image was printed by a dot matrix printer?
