The official Witcher 3 thread

Tell me, do you guys enable subtitles?
I've had to since certain words, phrases and names need to be read for me. Can't fully grasp what someone is talking about if you cannot even pronounce or spell it, then it's just fictional gibberish.

I can't stand subtitles. I find myself reading them instead of watching what is going on or actually listening to the interactions. Off, always.

I feel the same way. What annoys me though is CDPR's lack of hindsight. When you've got a bunch of characters (The Elder Races and the Wild Hunt) and an entire army speaking the Elder Tongue, perhaps it's a good idea to put in an option for non-standard subtitles.

I feel as if I'm missing out in those scenes, but I also can't have them on all the time because I'll just read them too quickly, and it ruins the amazing cutscenes. The facial animation is something else.

I induced a headache yelling at this game! Pain is still subsiding.
I've also decided that if a quest is not a main quest I won't stress if I fail it.

Let's just say: if a quest involves me having to protect someone who is very vulnerable I want it over as quickly as possible. I loathe such quests. Escort and protection mission are parts of the bane of my gaming experience, more so, when they're failable.

is there any penalty to failing a quest, other than not receiving the reward ?

uhm.. Don't think so  I guess you can always reload a save file if you want.

Does anybody else have "pop-in" issues?

Sometimes I look into the distance (not really that far, like across a river) and see a horse trotting along, only when I practically get on top of it do the characters or NPC's appear. Sometimes even in cities or little gatherings.

Funny you should mention this; was just asking the NPCs if they were all going to pop in 5 metres from me...

Yea that's happened a few times now. I would be trotting along and every few meters a npc would just pop into frame. Started happening since the last patch

Just met
Spoiler: show
Priscilla
. What a beautiful scene and something very rarely captured in video games. This game continues to blow me away.

Just started playing. Spent the entire evening fixing my drivers for my gpu. Then spent some more time tweaking the graphics.

My word what an amazing looking game. Playing it with a ps3 controller.

so I just started playing on PS4 last night (after having played on PC on ULTRA for about 15 hours). Have to say, despite the obvious disparity in terms of processing power, the PS4 version is still achingly pretty. IMHO, unless you sitting and playing with a PC version right next to you PS4 version, you won't be disppointed in any way with the GFX :)

the only real niggle i have is quite possibly psychosomatic. the constant barrage of the "60fps is the truth" from the PC Mustard Race has let me to constantly question every single possible"feels right" or is the bounciness actually due to frame drops :( *sigh*

I've always been of the impression, if it feels good and playable, it probably is. As long as the frames aren't at a game breaking level I'm quite happy to play it.

problem is, because of all the hoo-ha that the Mustardites have hyped up, i keep wondering whether the combat is as per design, or if it should be even more fluid...

i guess its possible that i'm feeling a subtle difference, having moved from PC to PS4. hoping that it will dissipate as I spend more time with the PS4 version. hate to see such an epic game spoiled with paranoid and pedantic frame counting :(

I think the problem that a lot of people don't realize is that I think by design, they have made movement to mimic real life. Like with the analogue stick you can't make Geralt do a 180 on a dime (like Bloodborne for eg). You have to move left/right in order to turn around, this is what people don't take into consideration. From facing North you can't just miraculously face South all of a sudden.

Agree with you and Wlad in this regard, I've never been handled by this. As long as it looks good and still playable I'm happy.
I was actually thinking to myself the other night with this regard, if I had got this on PS4 would I have had the problems I have been having with tweaking this and configuring that, crashing here and there and finding out why. I'm actually considering getting it on PS4, not because of any of this but just because it's such a great game. I love the PC version and the Hairworks too.

i think you hit the nail on the head. I reckon the (designed) feeling of momentum of Geralt and Roach is something that could be easily be misconstrued for being "poor FPS responsiveness".

and your other point highlights one of the main reasons i moved over to PS4. I grew tired of the constant fiddling with INI files and settings and tweaking and crashes. and the never-ending "FPS clock watching" was distracting me form enjoying the game! as i played, i kept wondering if i was really getting full 60FPS or if i needed to fiddle further settings :)
