The official Witcher 3 thread

Fantastic lore video for the newcomers in the series. Out of the blue really... :wtf:
Will probably be a cinematic in game. That did a similar thing in TW2.

Listen to a wandering preacher spin the tale of how magic came to be and how the vagabond monster hunters known as witchers fit into the universe of the upcoming open world, fantasy RPG – The Witcher: Wild Hunt.

New gameplay coming on Monday when the embargo for the press event ends. Will be lived streamed on GOG.

Here's a quick video:

A guy on Neogaf posted his impressions from the event. It sounds like the added time really helped with polish. Later in the thread he also gives details about the plot for the first 3 hours that he played. It corresponds with the footage shown in the new trailer, so I don't think he's making it up.

New gameplay on PC. The systems at the event were running an an i7, 980 and an SSD, settings were on High, FPS was 'fluid' apparently. Ultra wasn't optimized enough according to CDP-RED, but should also run well with the same hardware, after optimization.
Seems a little earlier though... Thought 7pm was the embargo time.

Same footage, from the Xbone though (apparently)

PS4 1080p 30fps
XB1 900p 30fps

Apparently the PS4 is looking almost as good as the PC version on High.

Changed my order from PC CE to PS4 CE today. I already own the game on GOG and since my PC won't run the game in it's current state I might as well go for the PS4 CE instead. Luckily there is only a R100 price difference.

Dude... you've got too much money :p

Hahaha, I wish. I've been saving up for Witcher CE for a while now (still not there yet) and then I recently started selling/trading all my PS4 games that I've finished to try and save up for Bloodborne CE as well. Those are the only 2 games I MUST have this year, the rest I'll get once those are paid for.

That CE was way too expensive for me. I like the series, but paying that much is ludicrous. "whistling: Then again, I was never really into the whole CE thing. All the extra the stuff that comes in the standard version of the Witcher games is equal to what Ubisoft considers a special edition...so I'm not complaining.

I'm glad you've got yourself a PC version. If you manage to get the horsepower, it'll be the definitive platform to play the game on.

Haha, yeah I used to buy every CE I could get my hands on (was still living with my mom at the time and taking advantage of no need to pay a lot of rent and such), but that has changed and I had to give up on buying CE's. The Witcher and Bloodborne are an exception though. I love The Witcher series to death. It is by far my favourite gaming franchise ever and that will never change. I've read the books as well and love them too and I even got a tattoo of the logo on my wrist, and plan to get a pin-up of Triss at some point. I might not know as much about the lore as some of the other fans out there, but I still love every minute I spend with the series. There was no way I was going to miss out on that awesome Geralt statue, no matter the cost.

I definitely want to play it on PC as it is the way it should be played, but unfortunately my PC won't handle it and I don't want to play it on anything lower than high settings if I play on a PC. I will upgrade eventually and do a couple of playthroughs on PC. The W2 playthrough I'm doing now is actually the first time I am experiencing the game on High settings at a solid FPS without stuttering or anything, I was blown away by how good it looks and how smooth it runs when I started playing again last night.

This is how I got the GOG version:

and this was inside the box with my code:

Let's just say someone awesome who was at E3 last year knew I was a pretty big Witcher fan and sent it to me. :D

Wow, that's dedication man. What do most people think of it when they see it? Even if they didn't know about the witcher, the design of the wolf head looks good anyway.

I've had trouble finding some the books, where did you manage to get them locally? I read the other day that they're doing the translations for the remaining ones. Hopefully the helps with the availability issues.

Yeah, TW2 still looks fantastic. I remember by first playthrough, running on low at 20FPS, I still blown-away by the game. Man, my PC was terrible those days :D I've been putting in some overtime to try and save up for a 970. Hopefully that should be adequate for High at 60FPS.

Amazingness

You lucky bloke. That is incredible! You've got a really nice friend there ;)

A few people have actually recognised it and they said it looks awesome. I need to get it touched up at some point (I've had it for about 6 or 7 years now), but I'm still very happy with it. People do tend to notice the massive skull I have on my forearm above it first though :p

Here's a pic I took a while ago (the bottom looks a bit "warped" on the pic as I had to twist my arm to take it):

I ordered the first book (The Last Wish - short story collection) from an overseas supplier when I was still working at Exclusive Books a couple of years back. The first 2 books in the first trilogy I just bought off the shelve from Exclusive as well. I still need to get the third one, but all the books should be quite easy to get your hands on locally these days. Just ask any Exclusive Books to order it for you if they don't have stock or you can try Takealot.com, loot.co.za or similar online retailers.

My first W2 playthrough was at 640x480 on the lowest settings at about 17-20FPS. before I got a (slight) upgrade and managed to play it at 1280x720 at medium settings. My goal was to get a 970 end of last year as well so I can play W3 on high from the start, but unfortunately that didn't work out so I have to settle for the PS4 version at first. I'm happy with that though as word on the net is that PS4 is running 1080 30FPS and close to PC high settings, which is much better than 640x480 at 17-20FPS :p

I'm really wondering what performance is going to be like, on this game, especially with the screenshots looking so amazing.

Either way, I'm buying it.
