The official Witcher 3 thread

I've turned off UAC. I've tried running the Galaxy client as an Administrator, but it doesn't make a difference. I see quite a few people are having this problem on the GOG forums.

Back to Witcher 2 then. I'm liking Witcher 3 quite a bit from the 30 minutes I played. On the third hardest difficulty, the game really is challenging. Hopefully this big patch is out soon.

Let us know if you come right.

Yes, I am having a challenge on the third difficulty. This is how I will play the entire game, I have just ranked lvl 3 as of last night. Had to find some plebs to take avenge on in order to grind up lvl a bit as the required lvl for Griffin contract is 3, still I'll level a little more before attempting it.

Have you got the Viper Steel and Silver swords from that bandit camp where you save that dude from the Griffon in the begining on the game, and from the White Orchard cemetary, respecively? People on the subreddit are saying that those two are really good, and don't require a lot to craft.

Might make your Griffin fight easier. ;)

Hmmp... not at all, never really thought of trekking back that way. Will do so so tonight as I've been mostly exploring to test if game crashes. Nothing worse than advancing on the story to have to do it all over again.

I have taken out some ghouls on the battlefield; taken out the noon wraith at a well and helped the herbalist.

I have not picked this up yet because the first 2 is still in my backlog. I got about halfway into the first one before I lost my saves to a freak formatting accident. Should i finish 1 or just skip to 2?

I never played the first one, and never finished the second due to controls feeling janky. I don't feel like I'm missing anything. I know the characters I have come across in the second. I don't think it's really necessary tbh. But just jump straight into the second if you don't wanna skip it.

My 2c

Imp and Wlad might have more to add to that.

I played the first one for a few hours, didn't like it after that. Played and finished the 2nd one once. Control schemes and combat is a lot nicer in 2 than 1, IMO. If I missed vital plot points from the first one going into the 2nd, I don't know what they were. I never read books, just followed the lore from the story within the game.

I see you can transfer some items and choices from the first game. Would love to play it for the story but the combat is so boring after a bit.

Game actuslly runs on my PC after the patch!

Haven't played it to check performance yet, but before the patch I couldn't even launch the game.

This 1.03 patch that landed today. Is that the patch that was supposed to come out next week that everyone was talking about or is there another one coming next week as well?

I entered my CD key on GOG.com to "register" my game and downloaded the patches from there. Will install the game and patches tomorrow.

I played until just past the tutorial now on PC. Performance on my PC is not great, but that was to be expected. I get about 22 FPS on average and it goes up to about 30. If I didn't have the PS4 version I would have played it liked this, the game still looks good to me even on the lowest possible settings.

I definitely want to play it on PC as well, but I'll probably wait until I've upgraded just a bit. If I can get a solid 30FPS I will be happy.

They are really good and I found them all on my own lol. :D

So after the latest patch the game has been running smooth without any crashes or stutters etc.. First time since i got the game that i'm actually content with it.

I'd say that reading the books is actually more important then playing the games. Neither of the games explains the lore and Geralt's relationships as much as the first two short story collections, The Last Wish and The Sword of Destiny.

If you aren't feeling Witcher 1, then skip it. Look on the nexus mod site and download a completed Witcher 1 save so you can import it into Witcher 2, or I can give you mine if you like. ;) Read up on what decisions import and go from there. The items you get aren't that helpful, they become obselete with a few hours of play anyway. Of course you won't get all the references from the first game if you skip it, but thats up to you.

Remember, you're playing to enjoy yourself. When it becomes like a job, then you know something is wrong.

---------------------------------------------

If anyone gets that 'no disk space' error in GOG Galaxy after installing the retail version of TW3, here's how I fixed it:

1. Uninstall Galaxy
2. Backup TW3 files to an external or another HDD
3. Uninstall TW3
4. Do a search and make sure everything related to GOG is gone
5. Reboot and reinstall Galaxy
6. Copy your W3 files and import them via Galaxy

The updates and DLC should download then. That's the stragest bug I've ever seen. "No disk space", when my drive is basically empty. :wtf:

-----------------------------------------------

For anyone using non 16:9 resolutions, like 16:10 or 21:9, who wants to have their HUD display in the correct place:

Go to your C:\Users\Documents\The Witcher 3\ and edit user.settings with notepad
Find the line uiVerticalFrameScale=1
I set mine to uiVerticalFrameScale=1.11 and the hud is now in the right place. YMMV. Remember not to click on Rescale HUD or it might set it back to the default 16:9 hud ratio.

My thoughts on the 1.3 patch:

The game runs at a stable 60 now. No more bouncing between 40 and 60. There's still some issues with the menus though, I get dips for no reason in them.

When I quit, it also removes itself from memory now. I don't have to add the process through Task Manager anymore.

Surprisingly, one of them few times where, when a patch says stability enhancements, they actually work.

Agreed, this patch has does wonders. Haven't crashed once (as yet).

Question game related though. How do you use your torch?
Also really challenging, using food like mad and money doesn't come by easily.

press the LB and then equip the torn (bottom half of screen). then press the RB to activate it.

on a side note, GOG Galaxy Achievements are now reflecting! :)
