The Skyrim Mod/Tweaks/Tips Thread

This is a great thread, thanks for all the effort of linking up the good mods you find!

Deadlier Traps & Sickly Diseases
Make traps deadlier by adding more damage, poisons and diseases as well as magic damage to them.
http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2905

I'll definitely grab this. I never could understand why someone would build a trap, and then not make efficient enough to actually kill me.. Oh, a giant spiked ball just bashed my head in? Never mind, I'll just stand still for a minute or so...

anybody got the Serious HD Retextured Landscapes to work?. ive added the landscape folder to the textures folder in the data folder and it make absolutely no difference.
do i have to alter any other files at all?
someone said to alter the skrim prefs ini to ungrey the data button on the laucher but that does not help as there is only the skyrim.esp there and nothing else slightly confused as all the other work straight away i.e enhanced night sky and hd trees but not this.

I will have a look when I get home. I didn't install it yet, because I was busy updating BF3 the whole night and the 200mb download for the HD retexture was crawling at an awesome speed of 5 - 15 Kbs.

I will have a look tonight and post my findings.

Thanks Sou1Co11ector been scratching me head at this one all day even been to most of the map trying to look for a difference with and with out the landscape folder in the texture folder (even going to the trouble of removing all of me mods and seeing if there is any difference but to no avail.

Hey, guys. I didn't want to start a new thread for this simple question. Skyrim is patching to 1.3 on my PC as I type this. It is downloading 4.3 gigs! Is this just happening to me or is the patch so large for you too?

I'll definitely check it out tonight because I will be reinstalling my BF3, and re-patching it, etc, etc, blah-blah origin fails...

SO that'll give me the whole night to check it out and see what was fixed in last nights' patch and what was broken.

WOW 4.3 Gb OUCH!

Mine updated yesterday and was 56Mb in total. Isn't it maybe downloading the whole game again?

I've seen that there are two updates to the Serious HD Lanscape Retexture: 0.9.9 is the one you probably have. Download the next two updates as well, 0.9.9.1 and 0.9.9.2, they are 34Mb and 86Mb respectively.

It might be because the game updated to 1.3 that certain things were changed and the previous files weren't compatible anymore, but I don't know. Just download the updates and check if it works now.

Thanks for the difficulty mods,i actually want the AI to be a bit smarter.most things hit my shield then get stabbed in the face because there is nothing they can do.

I'm thinking of making some custom weapon meshes, might as well put my skills in blender to good use.just have to dig thru my Skyrim folder so see what i need to get started, might have to use to use the same rigging animation as the other weapons.

I will wait for the Creation Kit in January to start some modding.

Anyways your welcome, I'm also a bit disappointed that the dragon difficulty mod was hidden, because they are starting to get a bit easy for me too. Hopefully we'll see another iteration of the mod pretty soon that includes a custom difficulty setting or maybe a mod with a difficulty slider for various types of enemies.

I'm lvl 20 with my witch/mage hunter and i can already kill a draugr wight overlord easily without using restoration or health magic or any sneaky tricks.just plain shield and sword.

Sorry didn't get to test out the HD Lanscape textures...

Friend came over... needed graphics drivers... brought Richelieu... got drunk... good times...

I found your difficulty mod!

Plutos Improved Skyrim Experience - PISE

Here's what you need to know:

[Current Change Log from vanilla to current version]

Spawns:
Generally, the spawns for creatures should, on average, be increased by 50%. Level caps are raised 6-8 levels above normal for a certain list. For example, Dremora's stop getting more difficult when the player hits level 48 - now there's a spawn for level 54.

This seems to be fixed. Some impressions would be welcome, I've noticed much more areas with increased spawns though since fixing the LLCT issue. It should not affect any quest spawned or triggered enemies. If it doesn't appear to be fixed, let me know and I'll come back to take a look at it. For a few who aren't seeing it, bear in mind that it's chance related. and confirm that it's not a quest area of some type. Many dungeons with statically placed enemies will NOT have increased spawns, either - such as the places with specifically placed draugr, for example.

Level Scaling:
Overall level scaling is now set to 1.2x the player level. This effectively means that their level is calculated at 1.2 * player level, thus the reference level for a player at level 30 is now 36. The actual change is that for an encounter zone, if you are over the minimum level; it multiplies the level scaling by this amount. But for the encounter zones, the minimum level is 0 (apparently).

Encounter Difficulty changes - this is localized to each spawn point:
Very Hard: 1.25x to 1.8x the player level
Hard: 1x to 1.4x player level
Medium: .67x to 1x player level
Easy: .33x to .5x player level

The Less Intense level scaling optional file has values in between vanilla and the standard; load it either after the main file or choose the optionals you'd like.

Leveled Lists:

Dragons are now deleveled but weighted. There's chances for any dragon to spawn from any level, but the chances of higher level dragons gets progressively higher as you increase in level. This will mean less difficulty at >level 45, but more difficulty at lower levels. Good with a slower leveling mod.

NPC's:
Enemy mages have healing spells across the board. Seemed fitting - but they may not necessarily use them at all times.
Enemy mages have the assistance tag changed, so they may help their allies with healing spells (may - I need the CK to expand this a bit).
Enemy humanoids have potions and will use them. Each humanoid has 4 chances of a 20% chance to get a healing potion.

AI (AI only file does NOT include sneak tweaks - that has it's own file):
Enemy bosses *should* start shouting much sooner, with a lower tolerance for angle, making it difficult to dodge bosses that shout.
Enemies should start healing at higher health percentages (60% to 75%).
Enemies should detect you easier while in plain sight, while leaving the rest relatively unchanged:
-SneakBase from -15 to -13
-Sounds Multiplier from 1 to 1.25
-LOS Sounds Multiplier (used when there's no line of sight) from .4 to .28
-Max distance for detection from 2500 to 2800.
-Light multiplier from .4 to .52.
Horse AI tweaked for confidence levels (courtesy to jpro06, I revisited it because of him and got my original files working) - this should require a new horse to work properly.

Loot:
Special loot weighting has been decreased from 4 to 2.5
Max level of items in a zone is now 1.8x player level, from 1x.
Min level of items in a zone is now .6x player level, from .4x.
Min level of items with regards to player level remains unchanged at .6x player level.

It is a WIP so there will be changes, but the changes seem good. You can also suggest more changes when you go to the links on his SkyrimNexus project page.

Also to go along with the previous game difficulty mod list here's another one I found just now.

No More Enemy Health-bars
The awesomeness of combat with the paranoia of no enemy health-bars. okay I'm going to kill him now... Uhm now? Why won't you die??!?!?!?!

Today I will feature a list of UI (User Interface) mods.

Map Improved
Remove CLOUDS, allow ZOOM below cloud level, remove the BLUR effect on objects and terrain that is default, add full world map CAMERA ROTATION, and increase the level of detail to reveal some roads, more water, objects and terrain detail.
http://skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=272

Recoloured Map Icons
This is a simple recolor of location icons on the map and compass. Towns and town halls have a unique 2 color icon based on their emblems. Other locations use a variety of non flashy colors sorted by type. Undiscovered location icons and quest markers are unchanged.
http://skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2032

Coloured Map Markers
Makes all quest targets green, all discovered towns blue and all undiscovered towns red. Everything else is untouched because I wanted it to remain simple with only the most commonly visited areas standing out on the map. Otherwise it would just become a sea of colors.

Save with F11 or F12
This is an AutoHotkey script that sends the necessary keys to make a new save, by pressing F12. Made a 2nd script that uses F11, as apparently the default key for screenshots in Steam is F12 and I assume plenty of people are used to this.
http://skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=364

Extra Spell Hotkeys
This script adds 10 hotkeys that can hold any spell, and function like a normal hotkey (left hand first then right hand). They can be configured to any key by editing the .ini file, but by default they are F1 - F10.
http://skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2548

Extra Shout Hotkeys
This script allows you to bind 10 different keys to equip shouts. It can also display a notification when you equip a shout telling you which shout was equipped. Which keys and shouts are configured can be changed by editing the shouthotkeys.ini file.
http://skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2241

Item Icons (KenMod)
Adds 30 item icons to Skyrim, more to come. In this package: Most weapons, most armor, common misc items.
http://skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1096

Time on Loading Screen (KenMod)
Display current computer time on loading screens! Keep track of the time, so you don't get fired from your job for playing too much Skyrim.
http://skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=98

Real Days and Months
A Skyrim remake of my popular Oblivion mod, "Real Days and Months", which adds the real days and months on the sleep/wait menu.
http://skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2194

QD Inventory
I know this mod has been featured before, but there is a reason for featuring it again. See below.
http://skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=667

Better Sorting
This mod basically takes several items, and renames them so they sort better.

Instead of vanilla item display being like this:
* Falmer Arrow (190)
* Iron Arrow (25)
* Potion of Extreme Healing
* Potion of Extreme Magicka

They will be displayed like this:
* Arrow, Falmer (190)
* Arrow, Iron (26)
* Restore Health, 150pts
* Restore Magicka, 150pts

Works with QD Inventory and Lost Art of the Blacksmith.

Hope this list helps some of you to get your UI sorted the way you want it.

So lately I've been busy looking at all sorts of cool mods for my game and I think today I will cover alternate Armuor Textures. All of them facemeltingly good!

Daedric Armour Sets

Daedric Reborn (My favourite)
This mod is a retexture of the Daedric armor. The goal of this retexture is to preserve the look of the original while improving on its fidelity by adding more details along with some personal touches that I believe will improve the look of the armor. The old armor had a dark chalky monotone look to it and I wanted to make the armor more contrasted and detailed.

Daedric Armor Ebony Retexture
Daedric Armor Ebony Retexture - WIP V0.08
http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1467

White Daedric Armor Set Hi-Res
I added this set for those of you who might want something different than the dark texture, so here is a white version... Too bright for me.

Ebony Armour

Amazing Ebony Armor Redone
Ebony Armor Redone in High Quality. Ebony Mail Version available as well. You have to see this! Awesome!
http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2544

Better Quality Ebony Armour
These textures make the designs on the armour stand out and takes the grey layer that the armour seemed to have on it, causing it to look dull away. Also added a gold version...
http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1027

Detailed Ebony Retexture
Ebony armor in Bloody red, Aqua, Green, VioletRed.
http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3274

Superb HD - Ebony Chainmail Armour
This mod replaces all the textures associated the body armour Ebony Chainmail. The effort into this was more than you would think, alot of it is done soley by hand.
http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1460

Dragonscale

Black Dragonscale Hi-Res Retexture
Quick black retexture and hi-res version (2048x2048) of the Dragonscale armor for both male and female, matching shield is in an optional download.
http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3165

Arctic Dragonscale
Felt the original was such a dull tone so I spruced it up a bit with some blue and highlights. Gave it a very "cold" look to it, thus the name.''
http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1870

BurntBiscuits Dragonscale Texture Pack
I've been working on my original red retexture of the Dragonscale armour and have created five brand new variants.
http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1084

Dragonbone

Dragonbone armor in fire
The armor is more dark, a nordic rune is placed on the leather and bones have fire inside.
http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=305

High Res Dragonbone Plate Retexture
A darker more gritty retexture of the Dragonbone plate set, I tried to match the metal on the armor to the color of the ancient Nordic weapons and just made the bone grey. Comes in HR version that I think is far superior.
http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1462

Runed Blood Red Dragonbone Armor
I darkened the steel and brought out the highlights. The bone sections have been recolored to be blood red. I have added runes from the dragon poem, directly off of the elderscrolls wiki.
http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3123

Whitened Dragonbone
This mod contains whiter and more polished looking textures for the Dragonplate Armor and the Dragonbone Weapons (Additional mod if you wish to have dragonbone weapons).
http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3226

Thieves Guild

Nightingale Prime - So good it deserves to be featured again!
This mod is a High Resolution re-texture of the nightningale Armor.I wanted to make it look more reinforced.
http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1896

Trimmed and Laced Nightingale Prime with Scarf (Female Only)
Super sexy, non-stealthy version of the above Nithingale Prime Armour.
http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2978

Thieves Guild Major Retex
The goal with this retex is to make it feel like an accomplishment when you receive your guild master armor for the Thieves Guild. The vanilla makes you feel like the king of the hobos. I will be updating this with new versions of the Leader's armor and the Recruit's armor, as well as female versions of both.
http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2577

Thieves Guild Master Armour
This mod now has options to replace the male and female Thieves Guild Master Armour. Its doesnt change any stats etc and uses duplicate textures so it doesnt effect anything else in game.
http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2772

Dark Brotherhood

Dark Brotherhood Requiem HD Retexture - Same guy who did the Nightingale Prime!
This mod is a High Resolution re-texture of the dark brotherhood armor. It's Female only,i had to make a choice didn't have the time nor the will to do both male and female.
http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3528

Dark Brotherhood new look
This is an armor replacement for the Shrouded armor of the dark brotherhood. It replaces the armor with the farmer clothes for males and the jester clothes for females with a unique retex.
Unfortunately however the retexture will replace the farmer and jester clothes using the same texture in the game.
http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3471

Deadly Serious Shrouded Armor
A complete native-resolution retexture of the Dark Brotherhood's shrouded armour.
http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2260

SkyUI, very nice looking interface mod. Makes the inventory far easier to use. One of the mods Skyrim desperately needed.

Awesome mod, will install tonight when I get home

Seems epic, will be trying it out tonight too! Fus Ro AWESOME!

EDIT:
You might want to try this mod as well with the ThuuMic mod. It adds the same functionality for your normal spells and it is fully compatible with ThuuMic.
