4gigs Ram
500g HD
Gigabyte Odin 585w PSU

Something's fan inside the PC is extremely nosiy. I have been told it might be the GFX card. Is this because I don't have case fans installed? It's just that if I compare it to our other PC, then I don't understand how it can be so loud. And it's not just when I am playing games.

Well the hotter the gpu or and the cpu get the faster the fans go hence they become really noisy. You should get those fans installed in your case as you need a good air flow in your case.

Does it sound like a hair dryer.

About your PC. It could either be your GPU fan, or your CPU fan. The fan on your GPU spins faster the hotter it gets, so if your case doesn't have enough airflow (read, extra case fans), it could be getting really hot, and consequently the fan spins faster.

Ok thanx. I will have a look at some fans. Are fan istallations difficult?
 
Ok, thanx guys. I will have a look and report back later. Will take the side panel off and see if I can pinpoint the noisy culprit :)

nope not at all

get 4 screws with it and just screw it in and plug it into a power connection. Check witch ways it blows and put one fan for blowing outside and one fan blowing air in. Side panel let it suck the air in and back panel let it blow air out.
if its the small power connection one it goes on the motherboard. (can only have one on the motheboard)

Not at all :)

4 screws to secure the fan to the case, and then connect either a molex connector (the big white one) to the fan to power it, or connect the small white connector on the fan to one of the fan headers (3/4 pin white ones) on the motherboard :)
 
Ok, so I am on my PC now with the side panel taken off. It seems like it is the CPU's fan that is making the most noise...

That's because it's an AMD. Get used to it. :)

All 4 my AMD's were helluva noisy. My latest Intel chip lets me sleep at night.
 
Ok, so I see in the BIOS the Cool 'n Quiet thingy isnt enabled...so it gives u an option of 3 pin, 4 pin or Auto. Then says u must run the fan calibration. U can also choose a "Quiet", "Performance" or "manual" option. Which must I choose?
 
Go for auto

Then put it on quiet.

If you later on find that your pc is shutting down go set it on performance. It should not since its not as hot as its here in Kimberley
 
I have band practice on sat. Going to pick up my copy of bc2 and then bugger off to band practice.
