This is a sucky forum.

Spam is spam. We would like meaningful joins and the point of the 20 post thing is meaningful participation and not spam. It is quite simple. The fact that you "joined to enter the competition" alone is not helping the fact.

Sad but true. If you do stick around you will see that your meaningful posts will be met with good feedback.

Yes, but in OP's case, if someone saw her post in the MyGaming Shop thread as having any value, that person must be reasonably simple-minded. :P

I've been here since the site first went up. I just don't understand how you guys can post THAT much..

You see ... folks like Syco only actually pretend to work. His boss never actually looks at his screen to see why he's typing away so furiously - he's probably one of the less tech savvy folk to whom typing sounds = work being done.

And in the meantime Syco's just working on his post count :p

You didnt anticipate this? The highest possible outcomes were either someone scared her away or the posts about her were true.

It is a little sad that these things happen.

Well I was interested to see if the OP had more in mind than just entering and then leaving, since Friday was the last post I think.

I find it hard to believe that *just* being scared turns someone away from a forum, if I was *just* scared then how would I ever survive cyber world. Guess that being in programming circle has trained me well where there are a lot of people that feels they are the shit, their code is the shit and you are not the shit. O well, it's a forum's curse then to have like 1000000000000000000000 members and 10 active users. *shrugs*.

She did however *just* post in a thread that was clearly dealt with, with being *surprised* and I noted it as nothing more than post++ which it was imho. I normally check the thread and the date before I *just* post and when I do necro I make it quite clear that I necrod for a reason.

:edit
Or is this a new thing with the mxit/fb/twilight cultural generation where a lot things just seems *scary* and then be off ?

She will prob be back in a few months. Or not. Anyways, I felt the same, an unfriendly atmosphere towards me/other new users.. Right now I'm taking a peek in through the 'keyhole' to decide whether I should have made my absence more permanent and run for my life or to enter again and give it another go. And finding posts like these, months later, of today's new users who 'feel' the same way, its either the new user that fabricates the situation whether knowingly or unknowingly or there are certain people in the community that target newcomers.

Heed what I said above, or not. Try to find truth in it, if any or detest it. I'm by no means a new guy anymore, but memories are memories and serves for experiences of the past.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the 10 active users?
/sarcasm

Oh, and a side note(fact? opinion?) Labels on communities is determined by those that shout the loudest.

Side note 2: I was thinking to myself that I won't side with the outcasted, incase I get labelled one, that I'm probably seen as one anyway, and even if I'm not... I'm willing to extend my hand, co-operate, since building bridges needs people on both sides of the river. I think you have an idea of who I'm talking about.
Not so new anymore, but if you havn't done the research yourself, here it is: After his first post, someone owns up to being the original etc. Lets leave that sleeping dog alone.

However an outright accusation is made against said new person
Not going to name names/point fingers because I'm trying to mediate this situation.
New person denies it. Since there are no grounds for the accusation, the only proof lies with IP's that mods can view.. Some normal discussion between new guy and golden oldie. (new guy 3rd post)

Possibly the start of the trouble 4th post: 4th post: Start of trouble new guy calls the quote a case of trolling. Moving on, not being so indepth. His 8th post was an apology.
Hang on, I can't even remember what point I was making. This is wasting invaluable time. :Back to studies:
Oh. a conlcusion for those that made it to here, it seems the new guy is trying to mend a broken honour. His honour is in his popularity with the group, so naturally he will fight for it. In some of the latest in the situation, he had a post arguing for himself, and that was labelled trolling. Read the below. Bye-Bye

Troll definition: http://netforbeginners.about.com/od/t/f/what_is_a_troll.htm
The above definition though doesn't allow space for arguing, which would be too fine a line to draw and then distinguish. So here is another: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_%28Internet%29

Lol, I got a few negs when I first started. The best one, "Dude, why the F*** do you spam your way to 20 posts? Annoying ass"

sigh, good times:cool:

^^

And that is why many of us are glad the rep system is in the grave ...... a handful of twits making it ugly for newbies should never be tolerated.

I'm trying to figure out if that entire rant actually had a point.

But here's my view - this forum has quite a few active members for one thing - and funnily enough, a lot of the currently active members are guys who took a bit of flack in the beginning, took it in their stride, settled down, and started contributing. I'll admit a couple of the guys can be a bit harsher than is really called for, but I won't object to anyone coming down like a ton of bricks on someone that is being - for lack of a better word - stupid.

Look at markface - he got himself neg-repped right at the beginning, and if I recall correctly made a number of rather tart comments about it too. Right :p He seems to be having a random good time lately.

I'm sorry, but does this post have a point?

Also, lol. "I'm not going to name names/point fingers", then you link directly to my post. Not that it matters much, because I still don't know if you're trying to say I'm being an ass or what. I might as well be reading Latin, that's how much sense your post makes. And no offense intended with that, I just really can't make head or tails from it. :p

Hehehe. Yeah, well we've all been through high school (well most of us), we should be able to take some flack here and there. A few months down the line if you stick it out people become way more accommodating as they see you aren't just taking the piss. I now jam with quite a few guys from here regularly on XBL - and its only been 4months.

If this is a sucky forum then you out of luck in SA coz this is the best gaming forum we have this side of the world :)

Here's a point that does make sense: The topic is a lie.
I'm thoroughly enjoying the forum. And I've forgotten how much fun guessing the game is... Now to find a game thats never been posted.
