Meh. I thought it was neg-rep worthy. It's high time people realised that reading a 4-letter word isn't anything to be offended by. It's a 4-letter word, ffs. A kitten doesn't die every time someone posts 'shit'. Your eyes don't melt when you read 'cunt'. Your eardrums don't start bleeding when someone yells 'fuck'.

Maybe it's that I've just never understood why anyone should be offended by hearing any of the Seven Dirty Words. They're just words. The only reason people find them offensive is because people choose to be offended by them. Stop feeling offended and they stop being offensive. Easy, no?

Really, it's just lazy English, and you are capable of better. If you want to use language like that then so be it, but don't expect not to be called out on it. So if you want the right to swear, live with my right to criticize your usage of it.

You show disrespect to many when you speak like that, or in this case post. So grow up and deal with the criticism instead of behaving like a spoilt brat!

Hi Graal,

While we encourage freedom of expression, we would like to keep the forums free from swearing. I took the liberty of editing your post, I hope you do not mind.

Thanks.

Hmm... That's new.

I've been quite happily swearing on this forum for years (one of the reasons I'm quite fond of it).

Oh well, in with the new and out with the old, I guess...

Some people take personal offence to such word usage. As much as just reading it is deemed offensive and inappropriate.

And... Within your feeling of "I have the right (seemingly) to say whatever the f*** I so desire", as this post is suggestive of; not all members are taking pleasure in actually reading such words.

This is a family site after all. Or, if you prefer "General, but friendly".

A profanity-free environment, is a healthy, clean environment.

Should you REALLY so desire to use profanity - censorship may be applicable; be it "***", or "$&#", or any other censorship-worthy characters.

meh I swear like trooper don't really care who I offend.

As for a clean environment I would hardly call mygaming a clean one:rolleyes:

If you want to take offence at simple four-letter words for no logical reason, then live with the fact that people will criticize it instead of behaving like an ignorant conservatist. Really. I see absolutely no fucking logical reason for people to be offended by simple words uttered in general. Give me a single reason for why profanity should be deemed offensive that doesn't boil down to either "it just is" or "that's what I've been told my whole life and that's what I'll stick to."

They're words. I can assure you the world did not stop turning because I said fuck you to Microsoft and Square Enix. I reiterate- people take offence at profanity because they choose to. There is no logical reason why 'fuck' is any more offensive than 'rompy-pompy' or 'cunt' is any more offensive than 'my vertical smile'.

You've been conditioned to believe these words are offensive without ever giving any thought to whether they actually are in any way bad. Fuck fuckity fuck fuck fuck. There. 7 orphans died in Egypt because I said that.

Is it that important for folk to be able to swear on the forum?

As on MyBB, I swear as I would normally. The only difference is that on MyBB it has an active profanity filter which masks "curse words."

As for "importance" ... I just can't abide by censorship. Draw the line at hate-speech, personal attacks and harassment. But swearwords?

As Graal says, swearwords just vehicles used to convey expression whether that expression is humour, anger or simply an "um"... I don't fathom the need to get upset or offended by it.

It's like choosing to be upset because someone phrased a sentence with a word you don't like. Like "moist." At which point do we begin covering our ankles in the name of modesty?

As this is the internet, at the end of the day it boils down to what kind of community you want to be a part of and, honestly, one that thrives on censorship and catering to the ridiculous sensibilities of religious, conservative or the easily offended is not a community I want to be a part of.

I like jokes, whether they take the mickey out of race, sexuality, gender, hair colour or some other preposterous stereotype. And yet those are each subjects any number of people take offence at. Why should overt sensibilities dictate what the rest of us find funny? Or how the rest of us choose to express ourselves?

How does a joke harm someone unless they choose to allow it to offend them? How does a swearword offend someone unless they allow it to offend them?

We don't live in some sanitised puritan age where we're all expected to dress in beige, black and white any longer. We have to tolerate each other, we have to accept each other's differences. And that is the point at which stigma against off-colour jokes, race, gender, religion and the different ways in which we express ourselves (choice of words, manner in which we dress, religious caricatures, etc) are meant to fall away and we're supposed to realise that "offence" is something that we place onto things we simply don't like and is NOT, necessarily, something that is harmful, dangerous or otherwise worth getting upset about.

So if you ask me whether or not I feel it's important that folks are allowed to swear on a forum? If that forum is open to the public and caters to a demographic that is generally open-minded, uses swearwords fairly liberally and expects that demographic to be themselves then... yes, I feel it's important.

Oh well, at least there'll always be NeoGAF.

So... Looooooooooong story short:

People needn't have to abide by such a rule implement, as, speaking honestly and truthfully may lead up to a point of the use of profanity - which will introduce the person's true feelings regarding a particular topic, situation or circumstance.

Having said that: not sure on the rules changing soon, though.

Kan du snälla översätta det till engelska?

D's trying to make milktart, so I'm bored :D

Waiting for him to finish so we can get back to playing Saint's Row. (The gameplay, especially in coop is brilliant, btw).

You so lucky to have someone to pay with. I only have random people to play with in supreme commander faf. And then I get sworn at in russian or german. :(

haha... Yeah, I suppose so :)

I'm not much for cooping or playing with strangers. Even poor D ends up just being my glorified sidekick or minion :D

In English, next time -- unless, hmm... Smooth move.

Blyat! You're awesome!

haha... I wish :p

Every time I make the SO dessert he scolds me. Apparently we're supposed to eat healthier foods. I don't quite understand. Peppermint crisp tart tastes awesome and it makes you happy to eat it. What can be healthier than being happy?

Are you married, my boy?

Oh, I'm pretty bad when it comes to stuff like that too. I'm not really a huge fan of sweet things (however, I've pretty much had my fill of sweet things out here since there's SO MUCH OF IT and it's SO CHEAP compared to normal food) whereas I love savoury foods.

Thing is though, I just really love food. I try to eat as healthily as possible but if I see something I want to stuff my face with, chances are good that I will.

I figure if I had to ever get cancer, I'd see that as a licence to eat myself into a coma. "BRING ON THE CHEESE!" "What on?" "On? ON?! JUST SHOVEL IT INTO MY PIEHOLE!"
