Network Issues:

Me and brother are struggling to setup a shared folder on my PC. But when he tries to access it it says he doesn't have permission to access the file. (WinXP pro SP3) Firewall is off. Where can I find the setting related to permissions?

OK, a networking question. May seem basic to some of you but I have a problem.

So, we just got ADSL from Telkom, and I was like :D. So it works on my laptop. Then I went to my desktop, and it said my network card was disabled, and I was like :|. Then I went to device manager and it said my COM1 and COM2 ports were active, but still no connection, and I was like, >:O. Can anyone help me please?

Network specs:
Card: VIA II Rhine Fast ethernet adapter
OS: Win XP sp2
Router: Billion 400G
Ports: 1 LAN port, which is the cable used for internet that came with the router, and two phone jacks.

Thanks for the help.

Sorry, can you clarify...windows doesn;t seem to be able to detect any card, even though the setup app that cam ewith the router said it was deisabled. Just a menu walkthrough assb.

1) Go to Start and click on Control Panel.

2) Control Panel window will appear. Double click on Network Connections.

3) Network Connections window will appear. Right click correct Local Area Connection by identifying the network card and type. If the connection is currently enabled, the first option in this menu will be Disable. Otherwise, the option will be Enable. Click on the Enable/Disable option to enable/disable your network connection.

Sorry for the late reply but this might help you.

Turning on and turning off Simple File Sharing
Simple File Sharing is always turned on in Windows XP Home Edition-based computers. By default, the Simple File Sharing UI is turned on in Windows XP Professional-based computers that are joined to a workgroup. Windows XP Professional-based computers that are joined to a domain use only the classic file sharing and security interface. When you use the Simple File Sharing UI (that is located in the folder's properties), both share and file permissions are configured.

If you turn off Simple File Sharing, you have more control over the permissions to individual users. However, you must have advanced knowledge of NTFS and share permissions to help keep your folders and files more secure. If you turn off Simple File Sharing, the Shared Documents feature is not turned off.

To turn Simple File Sharing on or off in Windows XP Professional, follow these steps:

1. Double-click My Computer on the desktop.
2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
3. Click the View tab, and then select the Use Simple File Sharing (Recommended) check box to turn on Simple File Sharing. (Clear this check box to turn off this feature.)

3) Network Connections window will appear. Right click correct Local Area Connection by identifying the network card and type. If the connection is currently enabled, the first option in this menu will be Disable. Otherwise, the option will be Enable. Click on the Enable/Disable option to enable/disable your network connection.

See, that's the problem. There is no icon like that in the network connections window. I tried to setup a new connection, but it said that my network card couldn't be found. I tried ipconfig, but it didn;t give me anything.

Ai why can't it be just as simple as that.

Okay in you device manager under network adapters is there one there?
Is it a onboard lan card, I presume it is plz go check the bios and see if the lan card is enabled(not all MB have this function)

If its there in the device manager with a yellow mark plz right click on the adapter and see whats the problem it should tell you.
Reinstall the adapters drivers.

OH, some more bad news...I looked under device manager..no networking adapters even listed. It just goes straight from monitors to ports(COM &LPT). I'm not sure how to check my BIOS via MB. I think it's too old to support that func. Is there a toll-free number that I can phone Telkom with to ask for help?

EDIT: Sorry. Network adapters are listed as hidden.. and I didn't check "show hidden devices". Stay tuned.

More info: None of them are disabled! I looked at all of them and here are my network adapters:
Direct parallel
VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter - Packet Scheduler Miniport
WAN Miniport (IP)
WAN Miniport (IP) - Packet Scheduler Miniport
WAN Miniport (L2TP)
WAN Miniport (PPPOE)
WAN Miniport (PPTP)

all of them are enabled, and I haven't updated drivers...mainly because I can't find the CD. Which device should I look for for drivers? Thanks. Sorry my trouble is so complicated.

10217 think is for tech support.

But seeing as its not in you device manager it is the lan card is not inserted(if its a lan card in a pci slot)correctly or is disabled in the bios.

Getting a BSOD IRQL_Not_Less_or_Equal on my HP Proliant Server DL380 G5 and I have tried everything from fixing Server 2003 using the bootable disc to removing hardware and replacing it.... does anyone know how I can resolve this problem???

Ok, can anyone help me DL drivers from this site... http://www.soft32.com/download_185299.html. When I click on download I go to the page and it says it's contacting the site...and nothing happens. I go to the morror site and it makes no sense. I need that driver exactly, so if anyone could tell me how to DL it from that site or point me to another site with that driver is would be excellent, thanks.
