Thread of PC Woes, Troubles, Problems, and Issues

Hi guys,
I've managed to get access to the data on the drive, File explorer is now picking it up, but barely. It's running extremely slow and trying to copy data off the drive takes AGES, until it freezes.

Is there anyway to copy all the data off this drive as it is? I've tried doing a backup but that fails half way through.

I would use Acronis True Image or Acronis Ghost.

Nope. What are you looking to spend (apart from as little as possible)? Also, do you really need 750W?

I have an i7 6700K, GTX980, 4 HDD's and an SSD. My PC draws 420W at full tilt (torture test). Usually when gaming it is around 350W odd (if I remember correctly). I do have a 800W PSU, but clearly it is overkill :)

Not all PSUs are the same. I generally recommend getting a 750+W PSU as you get more life out of it even with capacitor degradation. Whereas even if you get a 450W PSU for a system drawing 350W at full tilt you will come up short at some point.

Yeah, regardless of my calculations and recommending around 550W I would still prefer to get a 750w minimum and actually looking for a decent grade unit. Our power on the South Coast isn't that great and I would prefer to have those better quality caps and components.

At least that's my logic.

No for sure, but if he doesn't manage to get a 2nd hand PSU somewhere, it is a lot of money to get a new one (especially if he wants modular). I just looked at prices now; holy shit PSU's have gotten expensive.

I have a CoolerMaster Silent Pro Gold 800W I bought for R1600 in 2011. The equivalent CoolerMaster PSU now costs over R3k!

My thinking was that he can perhaps look at a 600 or 650W PSU instead, which will be a bit cheaper than a 750W. I had a quick look and the cheapest modular PSU I can see is a 550W Corsair for R1500. (Also saw a Super Flower one for less, but I don't know the brand and they will only get stock in March)

Do you have a surge protector and a UPS?

With the UPS connected (if you spend the money) to your PC you can get your UPS to power down your PC before the battery runs out.

[MENTION=6600]PsychoFish[/MENTION], thanks to your advice I installed Linux mint on my laptop and I've created a bootable usb for work. I've successfully used dd command to clone and zero disks, after some practice. Came in very handy! Thanks man, now I fully understand your command :)

All good, the power and control Linux gives is what makes me a huge fan
