So... you're getting a marriage officer instead of a dominee, and getting married out of a church, yet you still profess your vows before God? I'm not sure on your religious inclination, this is why I'm asking, please don't think I'm judging you or anything, merely asking.

Also, I'm not a fan of the Afrikaans vows. I understand you may want to stay withing your culture or heritage but I dunno, the word God in afrikaans to me sounds like you cussing.

*again, no offence intended Wenz

no offence taken Beo. no these are examples of vows we can do should we choose not to do something else. if a person was religious it should not matter where you get married, in any event, God does not only exists in the chruch etc, the church is simply a gathering point for lie minded people(in my opinion).
i want a non-denominational wedding as im not religious. the fiancee is not religious either but probably more than me.

i personally just think the afrikaans sounds corny, i think its because i dont speak afrikaans the way the vows are written. i would much rather do it in english as im more comfortable in english than afrikaans.

my biggest problem with these afrikaans vows the marriage officer gave us are that the wording is wrong and you can see google translate was used to transfer them from english to afrikaans.

i want us to do our own vows as i want it to be fun and represent who we are and not what everyone else does.

Agreed completely. And yes, make it personal, not something generic and copied from somewhere else. One peice of advice, don't make them too long. K.I.S.S. Keep it Simple Silly :D

I fascinates me when people make statements like that. Not to spark a religious debate or anything, but how can you not be religious, but possibly more religious than someone else? Would that possibly be "agnostic" on a level of religious fanatic to die-hard atheist?
