I didn't do the stitching itself. Had to hold a patients head a couple of time, as they were flinching away, in spite of having local anesthetic applied. The leaning over and on and getting into your personal space is unfortunately necessary, the doctors simply have to get in close.

I did get to assist with putting stitches in three different Casualties around the country, though, and I can safely say that I won't be trading my day job in anytime soon! :eek:

Well, kind of. The word inexperienced was used (which is impossible to know). I was also referring to the general goings on in a Casualties Unit, saying none of us have experience with working there (because the word lazy was used, pressed for time due to a lot of patients, etc.), but we weren't there so it is difficult to impossible to make an objective assessment.
Maybe he was inexperienced, or maybe staples were the better call for several reasons; we'll never know. I can only state advantages/disadvantages. :)

On a related note, my wife is very upset now with regards to what was said on the forum and the opinions of the people regarding the staples. So funny :D

The doctor had to inject me twice, I have thick skin and could still feel some pain after the first injection. I do understand the invasion of space being necessary, what I hated was the fact that the nurse was leaning on my chest and hurting me in the process :(, it was either some temporal pain or being the next scar face right. The doc sang while stitching, not sure if it was to calm me down or if it's just something that he does. o_O

Well, even an inexperienced doc/nurse is way more experienced than any of us, it's all relative. And my calling out a backed up casualty unit is literally a direct quote from my wife when she was the casualties doc, so I'll stand by that one! :D But mostly, my point was in agreement with what you said here, you just said it better. We can't make an objective assessment.. We were all just talking, sharing little tidbits of inexperienced knowledge.

Also, tell your wife I'm sorry for upsetting her! :(

LOL Se vir M eks jammer :P Is ma van my persoonlike opinie en ondervinding - ons het mos ma almal anner idees - daar was net vir my geleer/gese deur ander mense wat ook in hospitaal werk dat stapels is weer nie so goed altyd nie - maar dan onthou dit is in government hospitaal - so die kanse is goed dat stapels gedoen in ordentlike hospitale beter is.
 
Hi all

Just got home a little while ago. What a fuck up of a day. Come out of the plant and into the office at 15:45 and my manager gives me a thing to do and get done before going home (which is in 30mins). I only left work at 18:45.
The kicker? My wife is also working and she works until 19:00 and the daycare closes at 17:15.

This resulted in a frantic calling around to get someone to pick him up for us until one of us can pick him up. So my wife only picked him up at 19:15. I hate fucking work.

Hehe I learned a lot from these medschool posts.

My wifey went and looked at the car yesterday and most of the groceries were stolen, except for a bread. She bought me two birthday presents and one of them were stolen but the other made it. Strangely enough the GPS also made it. Oh but her usb stick for her mp3 player was stolen.

That's what grinds my gears - looting. People just don't respect your things anymore and have no sense of right or wrong anymore. If it's just lying there in the car, it's free for the taking it seems.
