Is there any chance of Hamilton winning the F1 Championship or whatever it's called. Not the race of the weekend but the whole thing. What will need to happen for that to be possible?
The chances are slim, but it's there. If Rosberg ends on the podium, he wins the F1 Driver's Championship (DC), no matter what Hamilton does. Hamilton needs win, with Rosberg being 4th or lower (I think) in order to take the DC; so purely on numbers, it's Rosberg for the win.. In reality, however, Hamilton will be encouraged by the fact that Rosberg only finished 4 of the 9 races (again, I think) where he didn't win. I'm going with these numbers off the top of my head, read it all last night, so I might be off by one or two in places.
What all this translates to is, unfortunately, a very boring race. Hamilton needs to pull a typical Hamilton weekend, take pole position, and lead from the start. He's good at that, and he like the Abu Dhabi circuit where this weekend's GP takes place. Rosberg, on the other hand, needs to make sure he stays out of trouble. This mean qualifying in 2nd, to avoid a first corner tangle with Hamilton, and even allowing Verstappen, Vettel, or Ricciardo to take second place with little resistance; 3rd place gives him the DC, while any one of the others could still give Hamilton serious pressure. So my hopes for an exciting GP lays firmly at the feet of the Ferrari and Red Bull teams.
My prediction: Rosberg takes the DC. All eyes on Verstappen as he shoulders his way through the field, and a teary farewell to one of the legends of the sport running his final GP, Jenson Button.
