Hallo, people.
Someone who knows about this (I'm thinking [MENTION=6600]PsychoFish[/MENTION] might), I have a domain name that is being managed by Afrihost, but I would like to get it resolving to my home IP - either through duckdns.org or no-ip.org, or a static IP. What is the software/technology that I need to read up on to get this right? I'm vaguely aware of the fact that nameservers exist, but I have no clue where to get started on this.
In the meantime I am reading (and setting up in a protected VM) how to set up a server that is secure enough to actually go through with the above!
screw the static IP. Get Afrihost to change the DNS record to point to the CNAME record (FQDN) of your Dynamic DNS provider.
For example... :
say avatar.dyn-dns.com is your DYNDNS address. Add/modify/change a record of your DNS to:
The only restriction is that you cannot point wildcard records to a CNAME (Canonical Name record)

Thanks! Afrihost's clientzone has a DNS management facility built in, so I tried what you suggested. Just waiting for it to propogate before I test.
Regarding the wildcard restriction, that means that I can only set my *.avatar.net record to an IP, but any specific subdomains, like home-pc.avatar.net or wife-pc.avatar.net I can still point to avatar.dyn-dns.com, right?

Oh joy......I've got to the bottom of why Windows has been bluescreening on me so regularly. Memtest86 picked up hundreds of faults in the higher parts of my RAM. I guess I'll be shopping for 8Gb once online stores re-open.
At least I know for certain now what it is-and have found out how to get to the important bits of .dmp files.

Man Hammer, I'm getting nervous about meeting people in real life again. Maybe I should keep my friendships online for now. Sorry, I know it's unusual for people to say this but I'll have to go with that for now.
Also your brother in law played the hell out of Far Cry Primal. Every time I logged in over the weekend he was playing it. Or he doesn't know how to exit the game or switch off the XBox.

Also, yeah that guy can get stuck into a game and not let it go. I don't think he is quitting out of the game though. But hey at least he can enjoy himself.

I finally have the house to myself! Altho its not as awesome yet as i hoped, cos the dogs are missing the family, they didnt settle down last night till close to 3am. I am exhausted

Wednesday is the BIG DAY - I get my first 2 implants completed. (just another boat load of monies gone)
At least for the first time in 5 years I got a decent bonus - aka it will pay for 3 subjects at unisa next semster - then I have 4 left to complete degree
Today I just need to go buy shoes and I have to return something at the mall - Shoot me now please!
Once that is done I can GAME!
