Torchlight II Thread

how's the game online

The same as it is in single-player and on LAN. Awesome! There is no distinction between offline play, LAN play or online play. You can use the same characters in all game modes.

For online play Runic only hosts a lobby service and you connect directly to the host. So if you are playing with friends from SA on good connections you should have no issues.

PS. You need to have a Runic account to play over the Internet.

I'm also running two characters at the moment. Engi for my solo run and Outlander for coop. Had an awesome time last night playing coop. While playing over the same (but notably different) area that I'd played solo, I killed a Phase Wolf that opened a portal to a challenge area where there were spider pits infinitely spawning spiders and we had to poison the pits as quick as possible before being overrun. Wasn't quite that easy and there were literally hundreds of spiders filling the screen but we managed to do it and got some great loot.
Later, a found a fisherman's torch and when we lit it, it brought a ghostly boat with a quest that took us to an undead pirates cave.
I'm loving the excitement of discovering new things each time.

Man that phase beast challenge was my first two deaths on Veteran :D

Played Torchlight I back in the day, and it was really fun. Think I might make a revisit to the game by getting Torchlight II :)

Really does give you the feel of being in a big, open world - and the graphics are smooth.

Do wish that it gave you a quick way (like D3) to see if an inventory item has better stats than a currently equipped one.

Uhm, it does compare item stats.

Then I'm being dumb :o - when I hover over item it shows me the stats on the item I'm hovering over and the stats on the items currently equipped, but I can't see the possible effect of equipping like I can on D3 i.e. on D3, I can immediately see that if I equip this bow then my DPS will go up but my armor will go down, etc.

Unless I just don't know where to look, TL2 doesn't have such a feature.

That said, the game really is very smooth and the levels and dungeons feel huge - I like the 'secret' rooms (flick a switch to open areas, follow a ghost to get a gate to open etc) and sub-quests within sub-quests - really draws you in.

D3 dungeons feel very static in comparison - a loose stone here and there but nothing that gives you that 'aha! - I found something hidden' feeling

Ah, no, it shows the stats of the two items, but it doesn't show what it's going to change. :p

Still, it's pretty straightforward, isn't it? Unless you want to see overall armor stats and DPS, etc.

It doesn't have that yet... The same way that it doesn't yet have the ability to link items. I'm sure those will be added shortly.

Whew! Thought I was losing it for a moment - @Wyzak, what makes you think it will be added? Is there a blogpost somewhere?

It's become quite an integral part of RPG games these days. I know the guys from Runic are working on item linking, so I'm quite sure that they will also add some text which shows what stats you will gain and what you will lose when you compare items.

Whenever I equip a helm or a ring or want to compare them, the popup blocks the view of the armor stats.

There is a link between the two, but it's not really necessary to play the first in order to enjoy the second. I never finished the first because the environments were too dull and repetitive.

I also took the plunge and bought this yesterday. Managed to get to level 20 or something and finish Act 1. This game is actually managing to keep me away from Borderlands 2, and that is saying a lot.

Also tried out co-op with a couple of randoms and I must say it was a lot of fun. I am really enjoying this game a lot more than I did Diablo III and for only $20 it's a steal.
